Chapter 46

ALEX

The week went by considerably quickly, I don't know if it's because Gabriela is staying at my house or for what reason, I'm really happy having Gabriela at my house, she always wants to help me with whatever I needed and even though it wasn't necessary for her to help me. There was no way I could convince her not to do it, she even helped me study.

But not everything is rosy, I know she's sad for what had happened with her siblings, that she continued to blame herself for what that girl did with them. No matter how much Carlos, Marcos, Carlota and I tried to get her to go see her siblings, she didn't want to, she flatly refused to go see them.

At her family are worried about her, especially her siblings who knew nothing about her, only what she decided to tell her mother or grandmother. Also, to say they thought she's at Marcos' house and not at mine, the moment they found out she with me they would come and tell me off or something.

Yesterday at the college, decided we're going to set her up. If she finds out she'll kill us, but she couldn't continue like this, she's hurting herself and it's something I wouldn't allow her to do, I just want to see her happy. We agreed Marcos and Carlos would tell her they had some things to do and if she could take care of their sister, which she wouldn't doubt for the world, she adores that little girl and that would be the moment in which her siblings would go to their house.

I know it's wrong to set up a trap, especially at her, but it's the only way we saw efficient and she couldn't refuse to see them. I'm sure she'll be angry, but it's a risk we have to take, and I'm willing to do anything to see her happy, there's nothing else in the world I want more than that.

Right now, we could say I don't like coming to college, although it's never something that excited me, I hate studying like almost all students, but I know by studying I can have a great future, and if I want one day Gabriela becoming my wife and start a family, I have to make sure I can make her happy without anyone's help. Plus, she's the reason I love coming to college. It's clear this month is going to be the longest of my life.

I tried to stay home every day, but she always told me I had to come, that it's important I didn't miss it, which I didn't care about, as long as I could spend time with her.

I arrived at the college right now and I'm standing next to my car. I was in my world when I saw her siblings pass in front of me and they continued walking until they turned and came in the direction where I am. I'm sure it wasn't to come to me, they hated me, which is understandable after what happened to their sister.

While they were coming in my direction, I see how a group of guys approach them and push Mario, which makes me go in their direction to prevent what happened last time, much less after promising Gabriela I would do anything to keep her siblings safe. I wouldn't let something happen to the twins, first they would have to walk over my body so they could do something to them. It didn't take me too long to arrive and I stopped in front of them, between the class bullies and the twins, I could tell they were a little scared and I didn't want them to be.

"Leave them alone if you don't want to end up worse than what their sister left you." I threatened, "That one didn't touch a single hair of ours, she just tickled us." one of the boys snorted, and I laughed, "I wouldn't say the same, she has a broken nose from Gabriela's fist and the rest of you are hurt. If that's called tickling now, I prefer not to have it done to me in my life."

"She didn't end well either." another boy tried, and to which I couldn't help but laugh "She's fine, just a scratch." I assured, still laughing "But we attacked what she loves most, that's what mattered. Now get out of the way if you don't want something bad to happen to you."

"Now am I threatened? First of all, I don't think some cheap kids could handle me, and second, what do you think Paula would say if she found out you had tried to hit me?" I asked ironically, because if it's true these guys were in cahoots with her and if what she said was true, I knew I wasn't going to allow them to do anything to me.

"She won't care, you're one of those guys who doesn't separate from Gabriela and doesn't care exactly what happens to them." The first boy who had spoken responded convinced, "And isn't it by chance you know the name Alex?" I asked for.

With that they were left looking at each other with stupid faces, which they were, but it's funny to see what their faces were. "Are you Alex?" asked one of the boys, surprised, "Now, you are going to leave these guys if you don't want their sister to come and finish what she started, first of all, and secondly, if you don't want to end up in the hospital because of me."

"Aren't you the Alex of fights? The one who left it years ago?" asked another with admiration in his voice. "That doesn't matter to you, but now you leave them alone and I don't want to see you near them again because I will take care of returning every blow you gave them and Gabriela, understood?"

"Yes, we won't cross their path again, we promise." With that, they left and I turned to see how her siblings are doing. I could see Mario had an arm on María's shoulders and I could tell she's a little scared, which is understandable after what they did to her.

"Are you guys, ok?" I asked, turning in their direction. "Yes, thank you, but you didn't need to get in the way." María responded "Of course it was necessary, Gabriela would kill me if she found out I hadn't done something to protect you from people like them." I affirmed, because I know she would, and then I would have no way of getting her to be my girlfriend again.

"And like you, you may not have hit Gabriela, but you did her the worst damage." Mario supported "I know, and I apologize every day for that. I also want to apologize to you." I said sincerely to which they ended up frowning "Why us?"

"Because I hurt your sister when she didn't deserve it, I'm stupid for doing it, but I swear I love her more than anything in this world and I want to make her happy. "I would like you to accept me."

"Ah, that's why you had to defend ourselves now from those stupid people, so we would accept you." María answered as if everything made sense. "I did that because it was my duty, it wasn't so you would accept me." I assured them, "Look Alex, in the hypothetical case we accept you, the rest of my family doesn't like you at all."

"And can we know when your parents and Gabriela taught you to speak to people like that?" I hadn't realized both Marcos and Carlota were behind us. I could see Marcos with a smile on his face, I imagine why the scene of the three of us at this moment must be funny.

"They didn't teach us Marcos, but he deserves it more than anyone, after everything Gabriela suffered because of him, it's the least he deserves." María answered, and I knew she's serious. "You know none of the three of them like it when you talk to someone like that, especially Gabriela."

"Of course, we know, but right now she cares least about us." Mario said annoyed, and I looked for a moment at Marcos, who's denying, "Of course not, she adores you." Marcos said "And that's why she doesn't talk to us, right? You don't even let us go to your house to see her."

"Well, that's over." I could see a spark of hope in their eyes and how their face lit up at Marcos' words. It's more than clear they missed their sister, and the truth was no wonder, even I miss her at this moment knowing when I go home, she would be there waiting for me.

"What are you talking about, Carlota?" asked Gabriela's brother. "You're going to my house today; you can't let your sister continue to be bad for something that wasn't her fault." Marcos admitted, "How come? Didn't you tell us she was fine?" They asked, surprised by that information, "I know what I did and believe me, she isn't right now, she blames herself for what happened to you. You know what your sister is like in that sense."

"But it wasn't her fault." They whispered, "You know how she is and she takes on blame that doesn't belong to her, that's why you're going to go to her to see if you can lift her spirits and to force her to talk to you, she needs you." He assured "Then if she's so bad and why didn't you let us go see it before?"

"Because she needed her space, but she's already had enough space and closing herself off isn't helping her, it's time for her to talk to you about what's happened." Carlota responded with a big smile on her face. "As soon as we leave college, we're going to your house directly."

"No, she won't be there. She's going to go pick up Ana. Better come after lunch, I'm sure she'll be there then." Marcos quickly answered, "Ok, we'll go after lunch, mom will be happy having her home again, we'll all be happy."

"And she will be, there will be no doubt about that." said his sister's best friend, "Thank you Marcos for that." They thanked him, and Marcos turns to me with a smile on his face. "Actually, it was Alex's idea, not mine."

"Oh really?" the twins asked in unison, focusing their gaze on me. "It's nothing, I just want the best for your sister." I could see how they looked at me in a weird way, it's as if they're analyzing me and I have no idea why, but with that, they left to go inside college, I suppose because classes would start soon or they would go to meet their friends.

"I think you're on your lucky day Alex." Marcos said with a big smile on his face. "Why?" I asked without understanding what he's referring to. "The twins are thinking about forgiving you, I could assure you they even forgave you for much of what you did to Gabriela." He assured and I laughed, because I know it wasn't going to be so easy to convince them I loved their sister and don't want to hurt her.

"They don't like me at all." I laughed "That's the way the twins are. They will meet at night and I'm sure they will debate the pros and cons of your relationship with Gabriela." Carlota continued "It's not like they were politicians or anything." I muttered, "They're not, but it's something they both do when they have to discuss certain topics, especially if they have to do with their sister."

"Themes like what?" I asked, raising my eyebrow. "Anything you could imagine, cheering up Gabriela, helping at home, stuff like that. The truth is a system the two of them have and only Gabriela understands." He answered me in denial, and I could see he didn't understand. "And it sounds interesting, honestly, but do you really think Gabriela will be involved in that conversation?"

"I don't think so, they talk about these issues among themselves, if they see it's too bad or anything, they call us or talk to everyone in the family, but Gabriela is never involved in that, she isn't allowed." Carlota laughed. "Why?" I asked curiously "Twins law. They're quite rational with the issue of family even though sometimes they want to kill each other, but in those moments, Gabriela is there so they end up not doing it."

"They adore their sister." Carlota continued "And she adores them. What I love about them is that family is the most important thing. When you meet the whole family, you will realize how much they support each other and they appreciate most is family. I would love to have a family like theirs, I consider they're one of the only ones who have that criterion."

"Do you really think I will meet her family?" I asked, hoping to be able to do it. "Obviously yes, isn't it clear to you Gabriela loves you?" Carlota asked, rolling her eyes. "Yes, but at any moment she could get tired of me or find someone better than me."

"Don't start with your nonsense Alex. She wouldn't be able to leave you, she loves you more than anything in the world for you to say that. If she hears you, she will kill you and I will be happy to help her." He said laughing, "Carlota, don't start." Marcos protested.

"But it's true, Marcos, I don't know how the two of them are so stubborn, sometimes they can get on my nerves, I'm serious. If I realized they love each other more than anything and nothing can be done to separate them. If that witch didn't achieve it with everything she's doing, nothing, but listen to me carefully, nothing in the world can separate you."

"You are worse than Gabriela on this topic." Marcos murmured and she laughed. "You don't really know." she assured, "I can see it with the naked eye, I always knew Gabriela was in love with you, but I preferred to believe it's not possible, I hated you too much for everything you did to her, and now I see everything I see, I know you're the best person Gabriela can have by her side."

"Well, thank you for that Carlota, I think it's the nicest thing you've said to me in all these years." I admitted even though I understood the reason why she had done it. "Well, I hope what I told you stays in your memory, because I'm sure that Gabriela will not like to hear those words, she can get tired of you."

And just at that moment the bell rang for us to leave for class, I just hoped the day would go by quickly so I could be with Gabriela for the rest of the afternoon if it could be.
