Chapter 51

CAROLINA

This morning, I decided to come to my daughter's house, more than anything because I know she would arrive today and I didn't want her to argue with Alex about having Gabriela at home, that girl didn't deserve to go through Victoria's hate, she's too good I'm sure she wouldn't say anything.

To my surprise, before entering the house I already hear how they are arguing, so I decide to go in to see that they're not scaring the girl, but my surprise is I don't see her anywhere in the house, so I suppose she will not be in the house and she forgives herself for what happened to her siblings. Of course, my grandson and my daughter are arguing and I'm more than sure it's about Gabriela, they don't argue about anything else.

"Why is there so much shouting in the morning?" I asked when I got to the kitchen. "I have to go to college." Alex responded angrily. "And you're leaving without breakfast?" I asked and he nodded. "I'll have breakfast, don't worry, grandma."

With that he approached me to kiss me on the cheek and is the moment in which he took the opportunity to tell him I'll try to talk to Victoria, because I couldn't continue like this, these discussions between them had to end, he nodded and left the house.

I kept looking at Victoria, because I'm upset with her, as far as I know, I had not raised her to treat people like that, much less a person as good and sweet as Gabriela is.

"Mom, I really don't want to argue in the morning." My daughter responded tiredly. "Didn't you get into arguing with Alex?" I asked ironically. "It's just he's too stubborn, mom." She protested and I nodded, because if Alex is anything, is stubborn. "I'm not going to deny you, but you're worse."

"Of course, as always, I have to be the bad one. You spoil him too much and put ideas in his head he shouldn't have." Mónica answered dryly, "I'm putting into him the ideas he must have and must have put in your head, with him I'm remedying the mistakes I made with you." I informed her, because I'm sure if I had taught her the things I'm teaching my grandson, we wouldn't be in this situation right now. "I'm grateful you didn't put them in my head."

"No because that's why you're not happy." I assured, "Of course I am." She tried to convince me, but I denied, because I knew it wasn't true. "And why do you distance yourself from your son instead of trying to understand him?" I asked, "Do you expect me to understand him with the damage he did to that girl? I can't believe it, mom, I didn't raise him like that."

"And I know, but he changed and he really loves that girl." I insisted, because if given the opportunity to see Alex changed, and Gabriela really loved him, these two wouldn't be constantly arguing. "I know."

"Then what's all the fuss about with Gabriela? You adored her." I tried to understand why at this moment I couldn't see the girl in front of me. "And I adore her, but I don't want Alex to suffer because of her." She admitted, letting out a sigh. "And why would I?"

"She can be with him for revenge and assuming everything is fine between them, what has happened between them is something that will be in their midst, there will be nothing that will take away from what Alex did to her." she responded, and I could tell she's convinced it's true. "Gabriela tries to stop me from thinking about what happened."

"Yes, but that's because they have been together for a short time, over time things change." "Don't believe it, they love each other too much to hurt each other." I insisted, "That's what I thought and look what happened."

"But that man wasn't good and I told you thousands of times, it's just your lover's head didn't let you listen to me. The only good thing that man did for you was to give you the son you have now." I assured, "I know, but I don't want them to go through what I went through. I appreciate Gabriela and her family too much for Alex to screw up again."

"He won't, believe me. He has been fighting for a while to get back with Gabriela and he grew up, he's not going to let anything happen to her." I assured, convinced that Alex isn't capable of doing anything to Gabriela. "That's right about Alex, but what about Gabriela?" Victoria asked "I already told you; she loves him too much to hurt him. If you put aside that resentment you have inside and saw them together you would realize there will be nothing in this world that can separate them."

"You think?" My daughter asked, "Of course, besides, she was in the hospital with him almost all the time, went to his room every so often." I informed her, "But she wasn't there all the time, that's what worries me, that Alex is getting too excited."

"He has been excited since he saw her for the first time, we can't do anything to avoid that, in fact, we couldn't have done anything. And then there's the fact she was from one place to another in the hospital because she was with Marcos and his family since Marcos' sibling had a surgery." I responded and her eyes grew larger. "Why?"

"I don't remember why, but it wasn't good at all." I answered, "She always hung out with those guys if I remember correctly." She mused "And she continues to do it, they're like siblings even though many people say she's either with Marcos or with Carlos, it depends on who says it."

"So, I've gone too far with that girl, haven't I?" She asked, taking a deep breath. "You did, and with Alex too." I answered honestly, "I have to talk to him as soon as he gets back from college."

"If he comes home, he might meet Gabriela to cheer her up." I said, shrugging my shoulders. "Why?" She asked confused, "Are you going to tell me you didn't hear her grandmother is sick and her siblings were beaten up a week ago?" I questioned, surprised he didn't know anything. "I didn't have the slightest idea; I remind you I was away for work."

"Ok, but that doesn't mean you didn't hear it." I responded, "Well, I hadn't heard it, and then I go and treat her like I did that day." she said regretfully "That's why I'm telling you, you should talk to her too, not just Alex." I answered, "She must not want to see me after how I treated her that day."

"You would be impressed by what that girl does, you do it, tell Alex you would like to talk to her." I responded, "He won't even let me dead." She murmured, "Don't worry, I'll be there to help you, he'll hear me."

"Thank goodness he had you as a mother." Victoria said, and I knew she's serious. "You are his mother, not me, and you raised him well." I assured, because even though they're constantly fighting at this moment, I know Alex loves Victoria, and he considers her a good mother. "But I wasn't there when he needed me most."

"Neither was I with you and here I am." I said, approaching where she is and putting a hand on her shoulder. "Yes, you were, even though I didn't want to, but you were, that's what matters." my daughter replied "Then I'm glad I helped you in some way, but I still haven't helped you enough."

"Why do you say so?" She asked, focusing her gaze on mine. "Because you didn't forget that man and hold a grudge against life." I informed her, because she may not have realized it, but the people around her could see it. "It's not easy to forget the damage they do to you, you know?"

"Then it would be good for you to talk to Gabriela, I'm sure she'll help you." I responded "I don't understand." She said, confused. "You fix things and talk to her, ask her." I insisted, "And what exactly do I have to ask her?" Victoria asked, "You ask her how she put her life back together after what happened with Alex."

"Do you think she can help me?" Victoria asked, with a hopeful tone. "Of course, that girl gives very good advice for her age, if you talk to her, you will understand what I'm talking about." I assured "Then I'll talk to her, I don't know how she can help me, but I'll talk to her." She responded, "That's better."

Victoria continued making breakfast while I celebrated inwardly, I had at least convinced her to understand Alex and that Gabriela wouldn't be able to do anything to Alex, that's already a big step, and I'm sure as soon as she talked to Gabriela and saw how the two of them treated each other, she would realize Gabriela is good for Alex.
