Chapter 78

CARLOS

The days went by, and I could see how Marcos was further away from Carlota and Gabriela, and the truth is I still can't believe everything Carlota told me. That girl seemed to love Gabriela so much, for now get with Paula and hurt both Gabriela and my brother. I understood the decision Gabriela made, because I'm more than sure Marcos would think they were telling him that to get him to stay away from her, even though he knows very well Gabriela wouldn't do anything of that kind, but he's stubborn, and when he gets an idea into his head, there's no possibility of take it out of his head. But today it wouldn't happen, I wouldn't allow him to hurt Gabriela, because even though we didn't tell her anything about what was happening with my brother, I'm sure she suspects something is happening to him and it has to do with her.

Right now, it was just the two of us at home because Gabriela had gone out for a walk with Ana and Alex. I headed towards Marcos' room and closed the door. "What the hell are you doing here Carlos?" my brother asked irritably. "We have to talk seriously, because I'm tired of your tantrum with Clara." I said, "Don't talk about what you don't know."

"Of course I know, do you think I'm stupid?" I questioned, because apparently that's what he must have been thinking "And are you going to believe what they say? Especially Gabriela?" He asked with a final snort and I rolled my eyes and I couldn't believe what he's saying, also if we take into account, he knows Gabriela better than anyone, leaving Alex clearly aside "Gabriela doesn't know what's really happening to you, and now answer me a question, since when did Gabriela doubt anything you told her?"

"Never." he quickly responded "And can you tell me just one time she lied to you?" I continued asking "To the point Carlos." my brother asked "All your answers be never. Do you really think she would start doing all that now?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow and crossing my arms "No, but Clara…" he started, but I denied, I didn't want him going there "Clara nothing. They're not the people you think they are, neither her nor her sister."

"You don't know her." He insisted and I shrugged my shoulders, because that's at least true. "I may not know her, but do you know they are Paula's family and they joined together with her to harm Gabriela?" I asked, "That is not possible." He whispered and I denied, because it's the truest thing I could be saying at this moment. "Of course it is, think about those times when you didn't find them and you saw they came from the same place where Paula was, then we talked about your sulking with Gabriela."

"I don't… It can't be Carlos; Gabriela would have told me." He pointed out, "Would she tell you knowing this is a way to hurt you? Do you really expect that from Gabriela? You know she wouldn't let you suffer." I countered, "But I acted like an idiot with her, Carlos." He murmured, looking at the wall. "I know, and that's why you're going to apologize to them."

"So, it's true. But Sara seemed to get along with her?" He asked, I think more to himself than to me. "Well, she's the one who gets along the worst with Gabriela. Apparently, Paula put all her paranoid ideas in her head about Gabriela and she has the same objective as Paula." I revealed "Hurt Gabriela." He answered automatically "Exactly, and it was her fault she started having anxiety attacks to such an extent she must have the pills on her."

"That started when it was about her siblings." I pointed out "And then because she dared to kiss Alex on her face." I replied, "Did she do that?" He asked, focusing his gaze on me. "Yes, Ana told me, and Carlota later confirmed it to me." I confirmed "And why didn't they tell me anything she had done it?" my brother questioned "Because Gabriela made her promise they wouldn't tell you anything so you wouldn't worry. At that time, we were about to tell you, you were my half-brother and not my brother."

Just then I hear Gabriela, Ana and Alex come through the door laughing about something and it doesn't take long for Marcos to come down very angry, so it doesn't take long for me to follow him. "Gabriela, you are a traitor." my brother said, and I could see the confusion on Gabriela's face. "What are you talking about, Marcos?" my best friend asked, confused "HOW DID YOU NOT TELL ME THAT CLARA WASN'T THE PERSON WE THOUGHT SHE WAS! In the end it's going to turn out that you're just like the others."

"First of all, calm down, and second, tell me what's happening because I'm not understanding anything." The girl asked, "YOU DIDN'T TELL ME CLARA AND THE SISTER WERE AS ASSHOLES AS PAULA." Marcos shouted, frustrated "How…" Gabriela began "HOW DID I FIND OUT? OF COURSE I DIDN'T DO IT FOR YOU. I HAD TO BE THERE TO HELP YOU WITH WHAT YOU NEEDED; WE'RE LIKE SIBLINGS GABRIELA."

"Marcos..." I warned at his side "WHAT? YOU'RE THE ONE WARNING ME WHEN YOU DID THE SAME THING THE MOMENT YOU FOUND OUT SHE WAS WITH ALEX." He shouted, focusing his gaze on me. "Marcos, don't even think about going down that line." Gabriela said in a threatening tone "OR WHAT GABRIELA? WILL YOU CONTINUE LYING TO ME LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST WEEKS? WELL, LET ME TELL YOU, I WON'T LET YOU DO IT."

"Marcos, let me explain." She asked and he denied, "No, there's nothing to explain, and it's better to leave me alone." He responded, "Marcos, don't talk to Gabriela like that." I said, knowing this would end up hurting Gabriela and himself when he calmed down, "You're not going to tell me how I should talk to her or not, Carlos, because I remind you hit her."

There was no need for him to remind me of what I did that day, because I knew it and there was no need for him to remind me of it any more than I remembered it. I was going to say something to him, but he left, and the truth is although I'm worried about what he's going to do, I preferred him away from the house, I don't want him to continue saying those atrocities, and even less to talk to Gabriela like that.

"Honey, stay here with the guys." Gabriela said to my sister even though I think she was mostly saying it to us, "Where are you going, mommy?" my sister asked curiously. "I'll be right back, don't worry." She responded with a small smile on her face even though I don't think it's a real smile. "Gabriela, you should leave him alone, it will do him good to be alone for a moment."

"I think Carlos is right, love." her boyfriend supported, "I'm going to talk to him, take care of Ana." my best friend said stubbornly and with that she left through the door where my brother had left the house a couple of seconds ago. "Carlos, what's happening to Marcos?" Ana asked in a confused tone. "Nothing." I quickly responded, "Then why is he mad at Mommy?"

"Things between them, don't worry about it anymore. You'll see when they arrive, they'll get along as well as ever, but why don't you go play with the toys?" I asked, trying to get her to focus on something other than that. "Okay." My sister headed upstairs, and I sat on the couch, making Alex sit next to me. "What the fuck just happened?" asked my best friend, "Well, honestly, I don't have the slightest idea."

"He hurt Gabriela for sure." Alex pointed out and I nodded, because I already knew that. "I know, but I'm also more than sure they will fix things in no time." I assured, knowing how long the anger lasted between these two. "I hope so."
