Walking into the huge building, Ariann paced slowly through the hallway, accepting the greetings of the individuals she passed by.
Almost every person she passed by, looked at her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable.
Though she showed a smile, not to appear weak, giving them more leverage on her.
"Your highness!" Called a masculine voice from her side respectfully.
"Yes?!" She replied, facing her caller. Though she was the future queen of the vampire community, a lot of vampires still stood against it; especially the elderly, raising the motion that they can't let a teenager lead them.
"How may I help you, your highness?" Said the male, bowing slightly to Ariann.
"Mmm? I need to speak with the council," she said politely, performing a small curtsy.
"Ohh! Why, if I may ask?" He said, putting on a friendly smile.
"No…!" She snapped. "It's a personal issue," she said politely, working on covering up her impoliteness.
"Your wish is my command, your highness," he said, his smile faltering for a brief moment. "I'll lead the way."
Walking ahead of Ariann, he headed for the elevator. On reaching the elevator, he inputted the number three, gesturing for Ariann to enter as a form of etiquette.
Stepping in, she smiled at the male, almost causing him to fall to the ground. Ariann had a lot of qualities, with beauty being the most noticeable, causing both males and females alike to get attracted to her.
"Any problem?" She asked teasingly, giving the man a smirk. She knew about her qualities; more like she always prided herself in these qualities.
"N-nothing, your highness, forgive my incompetence!" He said with a bow. 'Who said she was a kid, she's a devil,' he thought, sweat dripping off his forehead.
"Don't bother, we all make mistakes," she replied, gesturing for him to stop whatever charade he was performing.
Raising his head, he went behind her, not daring to say a word as the elevator started its work; taking them to a higher floor.
An eerie silence prevailed in the elevator, as they both kept quiet.
"Ahem!" Coughed the male, breaking the eerie silence. "May I inquire about something, your highness?" he asked politely.
"Depends," Ariann replied, her veins twitching in frustration. She always tried to be polite to anyone she meets on her path; a lesson she learned from her mom.
"I just wanted to ask if you know my household?" He inquired, his tone saying a lot more than words.
Vampires used households to distinguish themselves in the community; each household had a certain level of power under the rule of the vampire king.
"No," she said, almost leaving her answer, rude. "May I ask its name?"
His eye gleamed with a strange light as he heard Ariann's request, looking at her like a goddess as if to worship her. "House Jasper."
He said as the elevator released a clicking sound, indicating that their destination had been reached.
"Nice knowing you," she said, offering him a handshake. "Your name."
She asked as he received her hands. "Collins… Collins of house Jasper," he said, holding Ariann's flabby hand in a tight grip, unwilling to waste his golden opportunity.
"Mmmmh? We haven't reached our destination," she said, eyeing him weirdly.
"Ahh! Sorry for my shameful attitude…"
"Let's just head for the council chambers, Collins," Ariann said, cutting off his sentence.
"I'll lead the way," he said in a rush, motioning for Ariann to follow closely behind.
On reaching a door at the left side of the hallway, they both stopped, taking a second to marvel at the door exterior.
"This is the chamber room for the council, they address all issues here, except meetings or huge matters," he said, gesturing for her to head in.
Taking a glance at the door, she moved closer. Just a few inches from the door and it automatically opened, revealing a huge room, similar to the meeting; the only difference was it being of small size and fewer seats.
"Ariann!" called a frail voice, causing Ariann to turn in that direction. "What do you seek?"
Observing the old woman that just spoke out and the rest seated at high positions, looking down at her.
She never bothered to communicate with them, rather avoiding any possible closed-off meetings between them and her.
"Good day, elders," she said, performing a curtsy. "I came here for a matter I consider important to me."
Observing the expression of all seated personnel, she prepared to lay her case. "I plan on attending a school… public school."
*Bam*
"Do you know the consequences of that idea?!" An old man yelled, hitting his desk in annoyance.
"I know… my life would be in danger," she said, scanning the elders. "But, my life already feels so empty… this is the only way for me."
"Are you sure?" Asked the female, scrutinizing Ariann from head to toe. "Life is…"
"Bad! We are the only ones here, no community to lie to. So why not keep that charade?" She said in exasperation, causing most elders' muscles to twitch.
"Don't be rude, gi…"
"It's okay," said the female, raising her hand. As if superior to all, they kept quiet, waiting for her words.
"You're a silver lining for our race, I hope you know that?" Asked the female solemnly.
"To bear kids?" Ariann said in disgust, as she looked at the old woman. She was no fool, what these bastards longed for was her genes, not her!
"It doesn't matter what way you see it, just remember your duties," the old woman said. "There will be terms and conditions… as far as you accept, I'm sure we can come to a definite conclusion."
As she said, a smirk appeared on her wrinkled face, causing a feeling of revolt to build up inside Ariann's stomach.
{My updating schedule would be drastically slow, so please bear with me, I'll do my best to improve down the road. }
