Chapter 6 - The Counts House (3)

The next day I went out with Victor into the city.

In the novel there was a girl named Avery, who was a Half-Elf. In the novel she was described as a young prodigy that was a genius in rune magic. But unfortunately in the second attack on the city she died.

'I had almost forgot that the demons had planned a second attack'

Atlas had been in a different kingdom during the second attack. So due to his absence, she took command. Which was when she died.

"My lord are you alright?" Victor asked while helping me get off the carriage.

"Hm, oh yeah i'm fine just thinking" I responded.

"Alright then, where are you wanting to go first?" Victor asked

"Is there perhaps a witches or mage's shop, and a forgery somewhere?"

I needed to prepare things for when the attacks happen. Also because i need certain materials to defend my self with.

"Yes there is, but may i ask why?" Victor Responded

"There's just some materials i need"

'Technically i'm not lying so…'

"Alright understood, then please allow me to show you the way."

Tap..Tap..Tap

"Oof"

Suddenly a girl bumped into me.

"Ah! I'm so sorry for bumping into you sir!" She stammered.

The girl looked quite young. She had mid-length ginger hair, and pointed elf-like ears. She was wearing worn down clothes with a pouch at her side. And as she looked up from her bow she had quite a childish face and blue eyes.

'Now that i think about it her features are quite familiar.'

"Its alright, but if its okay to ask. Why exactly were you running?" I asked

"Oh…promise not to turn me in?" She panted.

"Well it depends on what you did."

"Haaa, ok i'll tell you." She sighed

***

"So what your saying is that you were walking down an alley after being kicked from your orphanage and accidentally bumped into some thugs, who saw you and started running after you because you had become a witness to they're robbery. And that's why you're running?" i asked confused.

"Yes that is correct sir, it was then that i ran into you."

"I see, by the way what was your name again?"

"Oh i forgot to tell you! My name is Avery Scott nice to meet you" She said as reaching her hand out for a handshake.

"..."

My mouth was open, i quickly closed it.

"Yes it is nice to meet you as well, my name is Lev," I said as i was reaching out to shake her hand.

I was quite surprised to see her here and to run into her so quickly. While she was telling me her story I thought it was quite familiar.

Avery was an orphan from the Baron Scott family. She was born from an affair between her father, who was a human, and her mother who was an Elf. she had been put in an orphanage due to her mother not being able to look after her. Where a worker there had taught her some rune magic.

"...Wait, do you mean as in Count Griffins' eldest adopted son?!" Avery exclaimed with shock

"Yes that is correct young miss" I admitted

I decided to use an honorific since she was the blood daughter of a baron. And also just to be polite.

"Oh, you don't have to use honorifics with me if anything I should be using some with you, Young Master" She blurted as she stood up and bowed again.

"Please you don't have to bow, just treat me as you would treat a comrade."

"Alright if you say so…Should I just call you Mr. Lev then?"

"If you want to then go right ahead!" I chuckled.

"My lord I'm back," Victor said as he was carrying food over.

I had sent him to go get some food while Avery and I talked. Also so that I didn't feel pressured by him watching me.

"Thank you, Victor, sorry for asking you to get food all of a sudden." I apologized though I wasn't really sorry since I was kinda hungry.

"There is no need to apologize, it is my job to serve you. And i assume the young lady told you what happened?" Victor declared with a look of suspicion on his face.

"Ah yes she did, also what exactly did you get?" I asked genuinely curious.

"Just some dango, i've heard that they've been popular lately"

'So they have Dango in this world to'

"Alright, then I guess we should dig in right?" I exclaimed

"Actually before that, I have a question to ask" Avery interjected nervously

"What is it?" I asked

"Well, since you've heard my story…Oh, never mind i shouldn't be asking that." She said waving her hands nervously

"No please say what it is"

"Well, could you please protect me from them? It's just that I don't know where they are or what they might do to me if they find me, so I'm a bit scared." Avery admitted

"..."

"I know I'm asking a lot, especially from someone I just met but please if you do this for me I will promise i will find a way to make myself useful." She pleaded

"You don't have a place to go back to do you?" I reflexively asked surprised that she asked that.

I then remembered that when she met Atlas in the original novel, she had been kicked out of her orphanage, for unknown reasons.

"...No, I don't" She admitted

"Well then, i guess i'd have to protect you right?" I said putting a gentle smile on my face.

"How could i leave a little girl on the streets, besides i was planning on helping you already." I said.

"Haa, My Lord"

Avery gasped.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have no idea how much this means to me!" Avery said with a bright smile on her face.

'Why do i feel like i did something wrong? Meh whatever'

"Well then lets dig in!"

After we finished eating we started heading to get the errands done.

"My Lord, where would you like to head to first?" Victor asked.

"Well actually i was thinking of going to a clothing shop first."

"Huh, what for?" He asked

"Well…since Avery is with us i thought i'd get her some things" I admitted.

"Huh!? Stuff for me?" She proclaimed.

"Yup, don't you need some new clothes the ones your wearing now look a bit beat up" I commented while leaning down twords her.

"...I suppose" She said looking down

"But if its possible could we keep the outfit i'm in right now?" She nervously asked

"Hmmm we'll have to see" I said glancing at Victor

"They would have to be mended, but we could try."

"Really?! Thank you, i'm so lucky to have met you both today!" Avery beamed

"Of course, Victor do you know of any shops that sells woman's clothing?"

"Yes i know of a few the Lady and Young Lady Valarie have talked about."He replied.

"Great then we'll head there first!"

After we had gotten Avery some clothes and accessories we headed to finish the errands we originally came here for.

Avery was now wearing a yellow overall skirt over a white dress shit with a black bow and some knee high socks, she was also wearing a bow in her hair(i'll let you decide the style :) ). She was twirling around laughing.

"My Lord" Victor whispered to me

"Hm?"

"Are you sure its alright to bring her back with us?" Victor asked nervously

"Yes, plus i already asked Ray to bring over a carriage" I responded

"Hey Mr. Lev"

"Yes, what's up Avery?"

"Are you sure its alright for me to go to your home?" She asked

"Yes, why wouldn't it be?" I asked wondering what was wrong.

"Well, i am technically a commoner and your the son of a count…" Avery pondered

"Relax it's fine plus i'm sure my family will understand the situation." I reassured

Clack…Clack…Clack

"And it seems that there here already" Victor interjected.

"Young Mater!" Ray yelled from the couch man's seat.

He then got up and ran over to us.

"Hello Ray."

'I still remember that disturbing wake up call!'

"Ray, you shouldn't yell to the Young Master like that" Victor lectured.

"He he, sorry, oh and who's this little lady?" He said

"Um, hello mister my name is Avery" She said.

"Well its nice to meet you little miss my names Ray" He said as he tipped his hat and bowed

"Ray, Miss. Avery will be staying with us from now on so please take good care of her." I said

"Understood, but if i may ask how did you all meet" Ray asked with a raised eye brow

"She was running from someone when she bumped into me, which was when she told me her story and i decided to look after her from now on." I said as i noticed Avery smiling.

"Alright, i won't try and cloud your judgment! Now then little miss how about we head to the estate now."Ray said excusing himself from the conversation.

"Well then i guess we should get going aswell young master" Victor interjected.

"Alright, then i guess we should head to the forgery first" I said

"Commander" a horse voice said.

"What is it, do you have the information i asked for?"

"I believe so, here you are"

The Commander then snatched it from the owner to the horse voice, and started flipping through it.

"Perfect then, i guess it's almost time" The commander said making a smile full of Malicious intent

"Would you like us to start the attack tonight?"

"Yes, get the troops ready. And remember the correct people this time" They said sighing.

"Yes, sir."
