Craig made sure the garage door was locked. He knew they were in deep trouble. If any unexpected stranger would go into the garage and find the body of a blue uniform with its neck snapped off, then their problems would grow exponentially.
He entered the TV room and noticed Andrew was waiting for something to happen. He seemed on the edge as he repeatedly tapped on the couch with his fingers.
'I have a bad feeling about this son,' Craig said. 'None of this seems right.'
'I know dad, but there is nothing else we can do,' Andrew said. 'I'm thinking about using Francois's phone to call this Victor guy, but on the other hand that might just aggravate things for mom. They will know something happened to him and they would most definitely hurt or even kill mom. I know she's still alive. No doubt about that, but why exactly are they keeping her? What's their plan? I know one thing though, they want what I have. They want my power, but that is something they will never have. I've been chosen for this to destroy them. I think they might even arrange an ambush or try to kill me, but that is not possible anymore. That is the last of my concerns. I've become a monster, a monster they fear. Which they should.'
Craig shook his head, 'what are you planning to do with the body?'
'Didn't think about it yet, but it might be safer to drop it into the ocean when the sun is down. We can reverse the kombi into the garage and put him in there. We need to find a proper spot to dump him. I'm not digging any holes, because that bastard does not deserve a grave. How many people did he not fuck over or had a share in these mindless killings?'
Andrew's phone rang. He walked towards the kitchen counter where it was vibrating on the counter and picked it up. He noticed the caller ID on the screen. It said, Mom. Andrew knew it could not have been his mother. They would have made sure to take her phone and cut her off from any communication.
'Hello,' Andrew answered.
'You should have known better than to fuck with us,' Victor's voice was loud over the phone speaker.
Andrew said nothing.
'You are lucky your mother is still alive,' Victor said. 'The only reason she's alive is that we want to fuck you up properly. After that, we will rape that bitch. Once we're done with her, we're coming for your sister. Now her, I'm going to enjoy. Nice and young, fresh meat. We might just as well fuck your faggot brother as well for all I care because your worthless daddy won't be able to do a thing. He's too busy dying and soon he will be a fly-infested skeleton.'
'What do you want?' Andrew asked. His voice was flat and dry.
'I think you know. Where do you hide your power? Of course, it is fuck-all in comparison to ours, but we are greedy you know? We want to see what you're made of. If you don't come, well then we're going to have a little fun with your mother's sweet ass. It makes me horny just thinking about her. By the way, she has quite a body for her age. I can only imagine how she can please a few of us with it. If you do arrive, well, then we're going to enjoy her body anyway because we're going to fuck you up first. Don't forget to bring what belongs to us, whatever it is and wherever you're hiding it.'
'I'm listening,' Andrew said. His mind started to drift towards the images of his mother being raped and tortured but he tried to block it out. He could hear the women and children's screams again from his dreams.
'Good. Here is what you're going to do.'
Andrew listened as Victor shouted orders over the phone. Once he was certain that Andrew understood he disconnected the call. Andrew stood there for a moment looking at his phone like it was a strange object he had never seen before.
'What's going on son,' Craig asked.
Andrew looked up from his phone and noticed the distressed look on Craig's face. 'The time has come. Mom is still alive. I knew this would happen sooner or later. The bastards want my power.'
'So what now?' Craig asked.
'Nothing. I'll deal with this. I want to deal with this. I'm going to kill them. There's something else you don't know. Let me show you something,' Andrew said and headed for his bedroom. Inside he opened his closet and retrieved the battle axe from his dream. He could feel the vibration from the killing machine he was holding in his hands. It was like his body vibrated with the same frequency, a frequency of hate and despair at the same time. It was reaching out to him. He could feel the currency from the past screaming to be used, screaming for the score to be settled once and for all, screaming for all the wrong that had happened in the past, screaming for all to be corrected. Revenge with no remorse.
You know what to do son. Your time has come. Kill them. The voice was back in Andrew's head. Kill them all...
Andrew looked up from the battle axe and met Craig's fearful eyes. Craig noticed something different on Andrew's face and eyes, something that he had never seen before. For a moment he thought Andrew might have been possessed by the same evil they were after.
'Son?' Craig said softly as if being scared that he might be attacked by his own child. He regarded the huge battle axe in Andrew's hands. 'What's that?'
Andrew looked down from Craig to the battle axe again, 'This is an ancient Viking weapon I brought back from my dream,' Andrew said with a voice not his own. 'You would not have believed me if I told you this earlier. None of you would have except for Em and Pat. They know about it already.'
'So what does it mean and what do you want to do with it?'
'I'm going to use this weapon to kill. This is the weapon that was given to me by the Viking god Odin. He gave it to me for a reason. I'm going to right the wrongs of the past. These forces I'm about to oppose were the same evil that killed Odin's clan. They raped and killed their woman and children. That will not go unpunished. I pledged my life to right these wrongs and I intend to start tonight.' Andrew regarded the large weapon in his hand with admiration.
Craig stared at Andrew in disbelief. There was nothing he could say or do to change the course of actions that were bound to follow. He was not sure he wanted to, anyway.
'There's something else. I got a staff the same way, but I don't know what to do with it yet. Odin told me Patrick had the banishing power within him so I suppose he was going to have to play his part as well. I will be doing the fun work slaying these bastards while Pat has to banish them somehow.'
'What happened to my family?' Craig sighed and leaned against Andrew's bedroom wall. 'I'm cursed. My son has become a slayer of evil overnight, my wife has been kidnapped and my other son is a demon banisher. It seems like the only normal one around is Emily.'
Andrew chuckled, 'Nah, Emily is far from normal dad. Don't forget she was the one who had the dreams in the first place. She was the one who led us to the Viking grave, so I don't think any of us are normal.'
Both Andrew and Craig laughed for a short while.
Andrew's face became serious again, 'I'll get mom back. I promise. As for Emily, please take good care of her for she has a very special place in my heart. The curse on you will die with those bastards tonight and for Patrick, well Patrick I'll protect with my life.'
Craig looked at the carpet for a moment. When he looked up again Andrew could see his eyes were brimming with tears, 'you know son, I always knew you would make it big in life one day. You were always the quiet one, but somehow you had something different in you. Even the day you were born, you were the quiet one. I was afraid there was something wrong. You had a certain calmness around you when you entered the world. I wish things didn't end up the way they did. I wish now that I never accepted the job in Saldanha. Well, fuck that place I work for, anyway. I'm not going back there again. I will fight with you till there is no more fight left in me. I will not let these cowards hurt my family.'
'I'm strong now dad. I don't fear anything no longer and I don't think you've seen the depth of my strength. I don't even know the depth of it for that matter, but we're about to find out. I know you want to fight these bastards just as badly as I do, but Patrick and Emily need you now more than ever. The only way you can help me is to protect them. Can you please stay next door with them until I call upon Patrick? Nobody would know they are there. If I don't come back, then you would know that something went wrong. Mom will die if I die. If I do, I want you to take Pat and Emily and run. Go away from this place for good,' Andrew said.
