Chapter 96

Numbers and his colleagues were driving down the streets scanning each corner and building for a hint of Sarah.

'How the fuck is this possible?' Numbers shouted. Mucus was flying from his lips.

'How the fuck should I know? The bitch was tied up pretty good,' Victor said.

'We are so fucked now do you know that?' Numbers shouted. 'We needed her and now that she escaped, we've got fuck all leverage, just a pond of piss on the floor. Didn't you think about what was inside the crates?'

'There was some old shit of my grandpa in there,' Victor said. 'I didn't know there were any tools in them. Fuck, I'm not even sure how she got to them in the first place. The crates were pretty far away from her when I last checked. I tied the rope tight so that she could barely move around.'

'Fuckin stupid...fuck. Do you think Andrew will show up after his mother is back with them?' Numbers asked.

'He fucking better,' Victor said. 'If he doesn't, we'll fuck up their house and get him out of there. We'll burn it down.'

'You mean, burn down my house,' Numbers said looking at Victor. His face was grim.

'Fuck the house Numbers, we can have whatever we want after we got the power. We need that more than anything else, remember?'

Numbers looked at the road again. 'There are good memories there.'

'I say we go according to plan anyway,' Mike said from the back. 'I've got a strange feeling he might show up, regardless. If he's not scared, then he's got a score to settle.'

'Yeah, I hope you're right,' Numbers said.

'We better be ready because if he does show up, it will be with war in his heart,' Victor said.

'We will be ready,' Numbers said with finality. 'I don't think we'll find her again. We've been looking all over. I've got a feeling she's hiding in one of these houses or maybe she's home already.'

'I doubt that,' Victor said. 'She couldn't have escaped that long before we got there. I think she's still here in Vredenburg somewhere waiting for someone to pick her up.'

'Why don't you phone Francois and find out if they got a call of her whereabouts?' Numbers asked. 'Maybe they want the police to accompany them on their way to her hiding place. That way we can still get her.'

Victor retrieved his phone from his pocket and dialled Francois's number. It rang several times. Victor was just about to hang up when there was an answer on the other end. It was not Francois's voice.

'I was waiting for you Victor,' Andrew's voice came through the phone's speaker.

Victor was caught off guard. 'What's going...where's Francois?'

'UMM, Francois didn't quite make it. He's dead. Snapped the fucker's useless neck so I guess the doors are busy slamming in your face one at a time,' Andrew said.

'Fuck you,' Victor said.

'Yeah, now you're talking,' Andrew said. 'Now that my mother is safe, I'm going to fuck each one of you until there's no more fucking left. It's not the fun fuck you're thinking about. Don't worry Vicky, I will stick to the plan. I will go there out of free will because I want to...believe me I want to kill you fuckers so bad I Can Hardly Wait. I'm going to pull that ugly fucker friend of yours' tattoos from his face and neck and I'm going to take my time doing it. Be there. You called for this. I will deal with you last.' He disconnected the call.

Victor slowly brought the phone down from his ear. His face was pale as he stared through the windscreen.

'What's going on?' Numbers asked.

'Francois is dead,' Victor said. 'Andrew killed him and he's angry. We are in trouble.'

'What about the bitch?' Numbers asked.

'Don't know, but she is safe.'

They drove in silence, each one trapped in their own uneasy minds.
