Chapter 47: A close call
"What devil fruit is that?!" Said Zoro with shock.
"Hie Hie fruit. The ice Logia…this is the extent of the power of an Admiral of the Marines Headquarters." Robin said softly as if afraid of being heard by Aokiji.
After his job was done. Aokiji started to walk back.
"That should hold for a week, take your time to cross. It's a little cold, you may wanna dress up a bit more." He told to the old man who was still looking in awe at the frozen sea.
"Is this a dream?...the sea became an ice land…" The old man said.
"Sherry, we can cross now! After ten years, we can reunite with our friends!"
He turned to the Admiral.
"Thank you! thank you so much!"
He then said his goodbyes to Luffy and the others and went on his way.
"Ahhh! it's so cold, is winter in here now!" Exclaimed Luffy.
He then noticed Aoikiji who was sitting nearby and looked like He wanted to say something.
"What is it?" Luffy asked the Admiral.
"You and your grandfather are very alike, Monkey D. Luffy. Is it open-minded or absent-minded? I'm not sure…"
"You know my grandpa?!" Asked Luffy with shock, sweat falling from his face.
"What's wrong Luffy?" Asked Usopp at seeing his reaction.
Luffy tried to brush it off. "N-no… it's nothing."
"I dealt with your grandpa a long time ago…" He looked at the crew.
"You know…even though I only came here to see Nico Robin…maybe it would be better if you all die right here, right now." The laziness of his eyes was gone.
They all went immediately on guard.
"The government isn't taking you seriously yet. But after carefully analyzing your group, is clear that you are a very determined group of individuals. You started as a mere group of rogues, but your bounties have been raising very fast and it's becoming apparent that you will be a serious threat in the future. Especially with Nico Robin here."
"Whoa whoa! let's calm down. I thought you were here only for a walk." Usopp tried to defuse the situation before it blew up.
"So you did come here to take Robin?!, You think we are going to let you?!" Luffy was starting to get enraged.
"Luffy, calm down," Said Nami.
"The size of your bounty does not only reflect the threat of your combat skills. It also shows how dangerous you are to the World Government."
Aokiji looked at Robin.
"Even though you were only eight years old, you had such a high bounty. As a child, you were a true survivor, betraying your partners and using them as-"
"I'm going to stop you there, Admiral Kuzan." Aokiji was interrupted by Vivi, who started to approach him.
"Vivi, what are you doing?!" Said Nami with worry.
"YOU, off all people have absolutely no right to judge her actions. Whatever Robin had to do to survive was because the World Government put her in that position. You committed genocide, killed hundreds of innocent men women, and children, then you put a bounty of seventy-nine fucking million on an eight-year-old girl because she knew something that made the higher-ups of the World Government uncomfortable…and then you hunted that little girl down and called it justice…but please, do go on and tell us again how evil she is."
They all stood there, looking at Vivi with open eyes. Even Aokiji was taken aback by the venom in her voice.
"Princess…you knew about…" Robin started.
Vivi gave Robin an apologetic smile. "Sorry, it wasn't my intention to reveal your secrets…I just got a bit mad by the display of hypocrisy.."
"Don't worry Robin, we wouldn't change our opinion about you by anything this Marine said." Said Sanji.
"Yeah!, you are part of our crew, that's all it matters." Said Luffy before turning to Aokiji.
"So, what are you going to do? do you wanna fight?."
Aokiji stood up and they all went on guard immediately.
"Sigh…nah… I'm not in the mood anymore to fight. But remember this, Strawhat." He looked at Luffy.
"As you are right now, you won't be able to protect your crew. Especially with her here." He looked at Robin.
"That's all ill say for today. If we meet again, it will not end up as peacefully."
"Next time, I'm going to kick you-" Usopp put a hand over Luffy's mouth.
"Luffy!, stop it already!"
"You are going to leave…just like that?" Robin looked a bit skeptical.
"That guy was crazy dangerous…" Zoro had sweat across his face and was still clutching his swords.
"Phew… I'm glad we didn't have to fight him." Said Sanji with relief.
"Vivi!" Nami grabbed her by the shoulder. "How could you speak like that to a Marine Admiral!, that was so reckless."
"If He wanted to kill us, we would all be dead, it is as simple as that. My words didn't change that fact." Vivi said.
"How can you say that with such calmness!" Nami demanded.
"Because I knew that He had no intention to kill us." Answered Vivi.
"You knew? how?" Asked Sanji.
"Remember the guys in Skypiea who could read your moves?" They nodded.
"They call it 'mantra', I think." Commented Chopper.
"Wait, you can do that too? cool!" Said Luffy.
"I'm not quite there yet, but I can read surface emotions and intentions. And I never felt any negative intention from Admiral Kuzan."
"Princess, you don't know how dangerous that man is, you can't trust him!" Said Robin with anguish.
"You are right, I don't know him as you do. I will not say something like He is actually a nice guy or you should forgive him. I'm just saying what I felt from him at this moment. That's all."
"Well, why don't we all go back to the ship and rest? I think we had enough emotions for one day. " Suggested Sanji.
"Yes, well leave as soon as the log pose gets charged." Said Nami.
"Wait!, Vivi, can you teach me how to do that thing?" Requested Usopp.
"Hey!, I was going to ask her that!" Cried Luffy.
"Me too me too!" Chopper jumped up and down.
Vivi chucked. "Of course, I was planning on teaching you all anyways."
A.N: Some of you may be confused about why didn't Aokiji fight the crew.
I think that He never really wanted to fight the crew in the first place and He has just testing the people that Robin was with.
He just wanted to see if they would betray her the moment things got difficult or if they would stand up for her.
