Chapter 9

I felt so helpless and weak for the first time. I heard voices, both familiar and non familiar.

Everything seemed to be in chaos and I wondered whose fault it was. Oh right, it was me.

"Doctor, save him!" I heard Oscar's anxious voice. It was filled with fear and worry. I tried to open my eyes but couldn't, they felt too heavy to lift.

'Am I gonna die now?' I thought anxiously, not because of anyone but because of the damn money I hadn't spent yet.

I still needed to buy dad a car and also, renovate the house. And the garden, I had to work on that too. There were so many things to spend money on.

"He's lost a lot of blood!" the doctor said

"Whatever you do, don't let him die! Money is not a problem so you must save him, at all cost!" Oscar's voice sounded low for some reason

"Boss, he'll be fine!" I guessed that voice to be Nathan's. It looked like he still didn't want to tell Oscar my real gender, good for him.

"We'll do our best!" The doctor responded and just like that, everything went silent.

I still wondered why? Why go through so much just to save me? Didn't he say he wouldn't care if I died? Why did it seem like he wanted me to live by all means?

What more to do but to get a new driver? I knew he couldn't find one as good as me but still... I don't get it.

Oscar

I can't believe he got shot. He's so strong, smart and...good. I completely ruled out the possibility that he could get seriously hurt, he's still a kid for God's sake.

I stared at the doors of the emergency room. He was in there, fighting for his life. It's all my fault.

"I shouldn't have let him get out of the car. No, we shouldn't have come back to the office in the first place." I just kept blaming myself for the unforseen misfortune. Nathan gave me a slight pat in the back and sighed.

"He's gonna be alright boss!" He assured but that alone couldn't ease my worries.

I didn't realize when it started but, I seemed to have grown fond of the kid. He was completely likable and easy going. I felt worse for putting him in this situation.

I heard voices at the other side of the door and the doctor walked out. He didn't look happy at all.

"Aiya, the girl lost a lot of blood and unfortunately, her blood can't be found in our blood bank. Although the bullet didn't hit her at a critical point, she may not make it if we don't get the blood on time." He reported and I immediately lost it.

"What do you mean, you don't have her blood in your blood bank? This is the best hospital, if you don't have it then where else are we supposed to find it?" I questioned and glared at the doctor. If he knew what was best for him, he'd get the blood from heaven if he had to.

The frightened doctor took off his nose mask and cleared his throat.

"The girls blood is extremely rare and..."

"Wait a minute!" I interrupted "Why are you calling him a girl?" I asked

"Well, because she's a girl of course!" He answered in an anxious way. I stared at him confused and then turned to Nathan, who happened to look guilty and was avoiding my eyes.

"We'll talk later!" I said and turned to the doctor. "How rare is her blood that even the best hospital doesn't have it?"

"It's not that we don't have it but because the rarity..." I didn't want to hear anymore of what he had to say. These doctors were useless it would seem. How exactly was this the best hospital?

"Nathan!" I called

"Already on it boss." He discussed with the doctor and set out.

All this was making me more anxious. If time were on my side, I would've taken him somewhere else. But that wasn't the only issue to look into, how did my driver, who had been with me for more than a month turn into a girl? How did I not know it?

She must've hidden it quite well for me not to suspect a thing all this while. Well played Tasha, well played!

After a while, Nathan got back with the blood and luckily, time was on our side. She was still in a safe state. The operation was a success but I was still worried. The kid wasn't waking up.

"You said she's out of danger, why isn't she awake yet?" I queried the doctor with a displeased expression.

"Mr King, she is indeed out of danger but she seems to have fallen into a coma. There's nothing we can do from here on, it'll all depend on her will power." He explained and I frowned. If anything happened to her I wouldn't mind strangling the doctor and shutting down this hospital.

I stared at her unconscious state. I looked closer and found out that she indeed looked like a girl. Why couldn't I see it before? Her character surely didn't look like a girls' though. Or did it?

"Get out!" I said and the doctor dashed out like his life depended on it. "Nathan!" I called and he came in.

"Yes boss?"

"Tell me, is it fun to fool me?" I had a dark gaze on. If this was some joke, I didn't find it funny at all. He shrugged his shoulders.

"Sir, as hard as it is to believe, I gotta tell you. We didn't fool you, you just didn't see it." He said.

"Then how do you explain this?" My voice suddenly turned bitter with anger. I was angry that they dared to lie to me.

"She's always been a girl boss. You concluded she was a boy all by yourself and we didn't want to correct your misjudgement so, we let you believe what you believe. That isn't exactly lying to you now, is it?" His words sounded sincere.

Then that meant I was the one who made a mistake from the beginning. No! I refused to believe it.

"I want to get a suitable explanation from her myself." I said and remembered something "Contact her father, let him know that..." I paused for a bit. I wasn't just going to tell a father that his daughter got shot, how would he take it? I sighed "... Just tell him anything besides this accident." He nodded and walked out.

Two days later, there was still no sign of the kid waking up. I was ready to tear down the hospital and transfer her to a better one. She's been out for a whole two days!

I didn't know if she was the one who cooked at her home or if her dad was responsible enough so, I just threw in a few bucks for him to look after himself.

But regarding the fact that she always went home even if it was already late, I guessed she must've had a lot to do for him. Either way, all things were settled.

"Come on kid, you gotta wake up and explain everything to me!" I muttered as I watched her closely.

I stayed at the hospital for the past two days and did my work in her ward. I made sure to keep a close eye on her but seeing her in that state, killed my spirit. I couldn't concentrate on my work and pushed most of it aside.

The next day, I sat by the kids bed, keenly staring at her face. I looked at her her and grit my teeth. Why did she have to have that woman's hair color? Then all of a sudden, I heard sobbing. I couldn't tell if she was just dreaming or having a nightmare.

"Daddy, why?" I heard her say. Her voice was soft and faint. She looked like she was in so much pain as she choked in her sob.

I didn't want to see her like that. No, the Tasha I knew wasn't a weak punny little girl. I needed to wake her up, coma or not.

"Hey kid, wake up!" I whole her arm gently.
