Christmas is behind us, and we rang in a new year with a new commitment to each other. I was happier than I ever been, all thanks to Scarlett. Even though I wasn’t sure about her initially, I couldn’t imagine not having her in my life now.

After the New Year, we would return to a new semester at school, but we kicked back and relaxed until then. Plus, Dad and Mom were having a New Year’s party this year. God, I hope nothing went wrong this year like last year. I don’t think Dad could afford to replace dishes again like last year.

I was hanging with Scarlett and the others. We didn’t know trouble was brewing as our younger cousins the hellions at their house.

Nik and Michael were hanging out in his room, listening to music. Nik was lying on his back with his eyes close as he hummed to the music.
