With everything going on with the kids, we didn’t have the heart to tell them Lucille wasn’t doing well. She didn’t want them to know. She said they had enough to deal with in their lives.

Nate called Jonas and Cayson over to see their mom. She needed her boys. I stood there, wiping tears away as they sat around her. I knew what it had been like to lose parents. It was the hardest thing to go through in your life.

When Grayson passed away, Nate and his brothers broke down. They had Lucille to help them cope, but now they had to say goodbye to her.

/"Ma, you’ll get better,/" Nate said.

/"Nathaniel, I’m tired. I’ve had a wonderful life, and I miss your father. I wanted to tell you, boys, that I’m so proud of the men you turned out in your lives. It took a lot for each of you to get here, but you did it,/" she told them.

/"Don’t talk like that, Ma. You can’t leave us,/" Jonas said.
