I sat in a treehouse in the backyard. I heard someone climbing up the ladder onto a platform as I dangled my legs over the side. The person sat down next to me.

/"So, is this your getaway place?/" Michael asked me.

/"Lakin calls it my fortress of solitude,/" I said.

Michael chuckled. /"It’s okay to cry./"

/"Oh, I can’t cry. If I cry, then I’ll cry all the time. No one wants to see a weeping mess./"

/"Larissa./"

/"No, Uncle Michael. I won’t cry, and you can’t make me./"

Michael knitted his brows, then I broke. He wrapped his arms around me as I cried like a baby.

/"How long have you kept your emotions buried?/" Michael asked.

/"I don’t want to worry my moms./" I sniffled.

/"You worry them more if you hide your feelings./"
