Chapter2

#Chapter2

/"I have been thinking about that since the announcement,/" I sighed. /"The point if keeping it a secret was so he could reach his dreams without any distractions. He has done that so, now it’s time to tell him. I know he will be mad, that isn’t my fear./" Gigi’s eyebrow raised when I paused. /"I don’t want him to think that I am telling him now because of his success./"

/"Oh, dear,/" she cupped my face. /"It will all work out just fine,/" she smiled at me. She pulled me into a hug before walking away and letting me continue my way to Daisy.

I flopped myself into the chair next to Daisy and she handed me Calvin, her year-old son. I kissed the top of his nearly still bald head and took a deep breath smelling the baby smell that I loved so much. /"What did Gigi give you?/" She asked me.

/"A check,/" I shrugged continued playing with Calvin. /"Then she brought up telling him,/" I added. Daisy’s eyebrows raised.

/"And?/" She asked.

/"And of course, I am going to tell him./"

/"You know I almost told him a few times at the start. Eventually I stopped calling and started just sending text,/" Daisy told me. I knew it had been hard to keep the secret from her closest cousin and I was grateful that she had kept it.

/"I am sorry this affected you and everyone else so much. I know it’s not easy. I am so grateful,/" I reached over and placed my hand on hers sending her a smile that I hoped conveyed my gratitude.

/"I understand why you asked us all to keep this secret. I’m just really happy that we don’t have to anymore,/" she smiled, and her eyes moved to look behind me. I turned to see her husband, Tucker, coming toward us with two shot glasses. I turned to look back at Daisy.

/"No,/" I told her as she shook her head with a huge smile. I rolled my eyes and sighed.

/"Here you go, ladies,/" Tucker said handing each of us a shot glass and taking Calvin from me. /"Go easy until later, Daisy,/" he told her pointily. I laughed at her for being scolded by her husband and she swatted my knee.

Daisy and I spent another few hours talking about nothing and taking shots. When Everyone else had left she stood up and shouted, /"let’s go dancing!/" I rolled my eyes I may have been drinking for awhile, but I was not on the same level as she was. Having had a baby a year ago she was a little behind on the drinking game. I started laughing when Tucker came over and steadied her when she nearly fell on me. /"Tuck, will you drive me and Callie to go dancing? She needs a night out,/" Tucker opened his mouth, to probably tell her no before she stuck out her bottom lip, /"please./" Tucked sighed and I knew that he was about to give in to her.

/"Fine but you have to be good. No getting me into fights like the last time./" Daisy batted her eyes at him and smiled. She always knew how to get Tucker to do whatever she wanted him to.

I stood up and decided that I better go make sure that my parents would watch Maddy. /"I’m going to go find momma and make sure that she is okay with Maddy for the night,/" I told Daisy before going in search for Momma.

She was in the study on the phone when I found her. Not wanting to interrupt I stood outside the door to wait. /"Yes, it is extremely exciting. I hope his graduation went well. Let me know after you have dinner with him tonight. Hopefully, this all goes as planned and this will all be over soon,/" I heard her nearly whispering to whoever she was talking to. I furrowed my brows. What did she want to be over?

I heard her end the call and walk toward the door so I moved so she could see me. /"Momma,/" I greeted her and watched her jump.

/"You scared me, Callie,/" she placed her hand over her heart. /"What is it you need?/"

/"Well, Daisy wants to go to Joe’s and of course she wants me to go with her,/" I looked down at my feet. I hated asking my parents or anyone to watch Maddy for anything besides working or school. My parents were always willing, but I still felt bad.

/"Honestly, Callie,/" Momma laughed. /"I don’t know why you always get so weird about asking me to keep Maddy. You know I adore having her./" She swatted her hand at me. /"You better get going before it gets too late./" I smiled at her as she shooed me toward the door where Daisy and Tucker were already waiting. Tucker was bouncing Calvin in his arms. /"Who’s taking the little one?/" Momma asked. Before they could even answer her, Anna walked up to Tucker holding out her arms for him to give her Calvin.

/"I am,/" she said before walking away. Anna absolutely loved babies. She didn’t want any of her own since she was studying to be a doctor, but she said when she found the right doctor to be her husband, she would become a mom. I looked forward to the day to see her as a mom she was going to be the best.

/"Thank you, Anna,/" Tucker said kissing Calvin on the head before moving so Daisy could do the same.

/"Where is Maddy?/" I asked looking around for my daughter.

/"She is asleep already,/" Anna shrugged before walking away bouncing Calvin and talking to him in a baby voice.

/"You better get going,/" Momma said as she walked toward the door to shoo us out. I thanked her again before turning and following Daisy out the door and to Tucker’s car.

When we got to Joes, the night was already in full swing. There were only two bars in all of Brownston. The Office was the bar for the older men that just wanted to have a couple drinks while bitching about their wives. Joe’s was were anyone looking to have a good time and not drive all the way to Atlanta went. We could drink, dance, and on Thursdays you could do some karaoke. I hated karaoke; thank God it was Saturday.

Daisy and I had just taken a shot and stood waiting for our beers when we heard the screeching noise of Maryann Wilson. /"Callie? Callie Barton, is that you?/" I turned to look in the direction of her voice. I turned back to look at Daisy, both of us rolling our eyes at each other before smirking. /"Callie Barton! I know you hear me talking to you,/" Maryann said stopping in front of us as the bartender set our beers on the bar. We picked them up before turning back to look at the most annoying person in my world currently.

/"What do you want Maryann?/" Daisy asked with a slight growl in her voice. I was a little shocked. Not many people liked Maryann when we were in high school and not many liked her now. Daisy and I were at the top of both lists.

/"I just wanted to ask Callie how it feel?/" She smirked at me.

I raised an eyebrow not knowing what she was talking about. /"How I feel about what?/"

/"How you feel about missing out on Colt. He’s about to be a big football star and now he will want nothing to do with you or that little brat of yours./" I jumped at the same time Daisy did, but it was to stop her from attacking Maryann.

/"She is not worth it, Daisy,/" I said pulling her back. I sent her a glare and pulled Daisy through the crowd to find Tucker.

We spent the rest of the night drinking and dancing. I tried not to think about what Maryann had said but it was something that had already crossed my mind. I wondered many times throughout the last four years if I had made the right decision. And now that he had been drafted, I wondered if he would want to even know Maddy. I knew he would be mad when he found out I hide my pregnancy from him, but would he think that I was telling him now because he was going to be playing pro football? I hoped not. Because the truth was, I loved him. I had never stopped and everyone in town knew that. They all knew everything I did was for him and Maddy.
