A house stands in a small cul-de-sac, just off the beaten path, giving one the illusion of living in the bush, yet having all the pleasures of civilianization on your door step. This is just the effect that Glen and Shannon Winter wanted to create when they immigrated to the Congo from South Africa in 1992 as Glen felt that he could not live in a country that supported apartheid. His sawmill business was not doing that well so greener pastures were sought.

Glen was quite an outspoken man, not afraid to have his say, particularly after a few beers where he would rant and rave about any topic that had captured his attention, and unfortunately for Glen, his actions had captured the attention of the very people that he would rather not know about.
