If the way that my mother's mouth had thinned into a tight slash, or the way her nostrils flared like an angry dragon, was anything to go by, there stood a chance that she was not very happy.

She gazed down at my puppy with what could have only been described as disdain. In return, the pup cowered at my feet, a lowly whine emitting from his trembling body.

The urge to point out all the pros of having a dog was almost overwhelming; we'd never have to waste leftovers again, and if there was a burglar, I could train Milo to bite their butts. I bet I could have even trained him to fetch my slippers or be a cuddle buddy, too!
