My mother had once told me that falling in love with the right person would be like listening to a song that only I could hear.

My mother said a lot of wise old cracks that I tended not to pay that much attention to; she knew what she was talking about, for the most part, but she made my head spin sometimes.

Yet, from the very first moment I had met Isaac, it had brought those words to mind. I had been so sure, so positive that I was right about him, that there was more to him than just the explosive little firecracker he made himself out to be. It was a certainty that filled me every time I looked at him, like a crooning lullaby . . . that only I could hear.

Like rain, I had fallen. He had simply been a part of my world, but now, he was very quickly becoming my whole world. As much as that terrified me, it also excited me.
