The walk up to the front door was agonizing. Our shoes slapped against the pavement and my heart did funny little things in my chest. I think my mother and I had already established that I was being intimate with another man, and while I doubted finally bringing him home would be shocking to her after that, I still felt nervous.

Oz was sitting on the stairs as we entered, Milo sat between his legs with his snout resting on Oz's knee while he fed him bits of cheese from his cheese string, but he jumped up happily once he saw us and let Milo have what remained.

/"Eyes,/" he squealed, almost tripping over the mutt as he threw himself into my arms. /"I've missed you so much. Mom said you were coming so I waited right here for you./"

I squeezed him so tight that I was afraid that neither of us would ever let go. /"I missed you too. We need to do something together soon, like we used to./"
