Something had changed between them.

The shift had been a most delicate one, subtle and tenuous, and although the exact turning point wasn't accessible to pinpoint, Jackson had felt it. Witnessed it.

It may have been subtle, but once noticed, it roared with the pride of a lion.

Which was why Jackson was left with no choice: he couldn't do this anymore.

The relationship he had with Sylvester, it was no longer professional. The foundations of it, the bones of its nature, it was no longer what it had been when they had first entered the agreement.

The shift had changed everything; much like the way the Earth orbited the Sun, they had begun to move around each other with a natural, gravitational ease. The familiarity, the level of comfort that usually took years to acquire with a person, it had blossomed between them in little under two weeks.
