I GROANED upon stretching my limbs. The first thing that came to my senses was the smell—it wasn’t the smell of Skip’s car. It smelled fresh laundry. And I was lying flat and able to stretch my limbs. The soft humming came next—it was the air conditioning. I spread my arms, the softness of the sheet under my palm confirmed something. I was in bed—it was a queen size to be precise, and I was sleeping comfortably.

My eyes flew open wide. I met the teardrop small chandelier hanging at the cream-colored ceiling. A tendril of fear crawled down my spine when it hit me—this was not our bedroom.

I checked myself—I was still wearing the same dress. My shoes were taken off of my feet.

I wasn’t feeling dizzy though. Then the event of the party sprang into my mind, and I was talking with Skip in his car.

Where’s Skip?

Oh, my God! No no no! My blood froze in my veins.
