Chapter3

#Chapter3

This wasn’t the way I planned to spend my schooldays, running away in fear of a gang of murderers. Ever since I moved here, I already tried to stay in the shadows and away from any wandering eyes. Being the new girl in school already earns you the luxury of being stared at and analysed all day long until the students find something else to keep them entertained and well me, being me, I preferred to stay hidden because being the centre of attention never did me any good.

I had managed to get away from the guys and run home but how many times would I be able to avoid them before they did the same to me as they did with that guy in the alleyway? Not had I only been avoiding them, I was also avoiding my friends because I didn’t want to get them into this mess either, I didn’t want those guys to assume that I told my friends about what happened and target them too or maybe target them just in order to keep me on my toes and have something on me. But I couldn’t avoid my friends forever, they were already texting me, asking me why I had ignored them during the day in school, they were worried about me and wanted to meet so I agreed to meet one of them tonight, hopefully seeing as it was outside of school and only one person, we wouldn’t be too visible to the eye amongst the crowded Tokyo streets.

/"Hey Yui! What’s wrong?/"

Hina asked as she ran towards me, we had decided to meet at a park near mine and her home because I didn’t want to be too far from our houses and I didn’t want to be in the house either because my dad was home and he was drunk as usual.

/"Oh it’s nothing, I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning./"

I giggled half heartedly, not wanting to alarm her but I wasn’t so sure how I was going to keep this a secret at the same time as avoiding her. She’d know something was wrong./"

/"Something tells me you’re lying… hm./"

She frowned at me, narrowing her eyes as she analysed my every move. She knew that I was lying.

/"I’m really not-/"

Interrupting me mid sentence, she held out her hand in front of my face as she said;

/"Don’t do that, don’t lie to me Yui./"

And for a moment, just a moment, I considered telling her what had really happened but I knew that once I told her, she would also be in danger of those guys and I didn’t want that and before I could come up with another excuse or a lie, my heart froze as I saw from the corner of my eyes a bunch of guys walking towards us, they were making quite the noise and Hina looked towards them before I did.

Once I turned my head, I came face to face with the same gang of guys that were hunting me down now. Completely immobile, I went over my options, I could’ve grabbed Hina and ran but how far before they caught up to us? I could’ve told Hina to make a run for it instead but then that would make her look like she also knew about what they had done, I went with neither of those options and decided to hold my ground. They weren’t going to bully me into silence. They weren’t going to make me fear for mine or my friends life so I sat there, staring at them as they got closer, I managed to take a few deep breaths, composing myself as they came and stood right before me.

/"Yui. What’s up?/"

One of the guys said as he eyed me down with a malicious smirk riding the corners of his lips as the rest of the guys just stood there and watched me and Hina.I glanced over to Hina who looked a little uncomfortable but more surprised that these guys were acting like they knew me. Everyone in school knew that these guys didn’t pay attention to anyone but themselves.

/"Who’s your friend? Introduce us? We can become friends too./"

The guy said as he laughed, there was a hint of complete and utter madness within his maniacal laughter and it sent chills up my spine.

/"No thanks./"

I said before Hina could say anything and as the words left my lips, the guy stepped forward, towards Hina and so, I stood up from my seat and stepped in between him and Hina.

/"Didn’t you hear me? I said no thanks./"

I gritted my teeth as my hands clenched up into fists, I was sweating from my anxiousness and I was irritated. Hina was innocent and if they hurt her because of me, I could never forgive myself.

/"Careful how you speak to me little girl./"

He muttered out before one of his guys came forward and whispered something in his ear, something that I couldn’t hear and it made me nervous because soon after that, he turned and looked towards the alpha of their group who was stood away from all of us, he was leaning against an ice cream van with his hands in his pocket and his eyes on me.

/"What’s going on here-/"

And before Hina could finish off her sentence I turned around and hushed her, not wanting her to say anything or have any part in this and noticing my desperation for her not to say anything, she nodded her head and kept quiet before I turned to look at the guys.

/"Looks like there’s other plans for you in store Yui./"

The guy’s threat came out loud and clear before he finished off his taunting with;

/"This isn’t over./"

And with that, he walked off, the rest of them all going with him and leaving me here with Hina, leaving me to think about what I could say to Hina to make all of this seem less suspicious and as I spent the next hour or so trying to come up with excuses, I eventually gave in to her persistence and told her the truth… afraid that I may have just,

Made the biggest mistake of my life,

That could cost me,

My friend.
