#Chapter32
Aphrodite
Ares’s knife clinking against his glass brings me out of my thoughts. I blink and turn my gaze to him.
We stand in his ballroom, people rustling and bustling around us. A few couples are waltzing on the dance floor, but everyone else stands around. Waiters weave through the crowd, refilling drinks.
I’m perched at the bottom of the grand stairs leading to the second floor, and Ares hovers a few steps above me.
When nobody notices Ares’s call to attention, he rolls his eyes. Clearing his throat, he gets louder with his clinking and calls out.
/"Ladies and gentlemen. Athenians and Thebans most high-ranking officials. I hope you’ve enjoyed the evening thus far./"
There’s a small round of applause, and I fight a sigh. Why are they applauding a monster?
/"Tonight is the first appearance of my beautiful mate, and I expect everyone to treat her with the same respect and regard you extend to me./"
