CHAPTER 90
[Tom Hendricks POV]
The Young Justice team accused me of being behind the theft from the laboratory, but I denied any involvement. They had no proof, yet they persisted in attacking me.
As the Young Justice team approached me, accusing me of being the thief they were searching for, I knew I had to be on my guard. "You have no proof," I said, crossing my arms over my chest. "I am not this so-called thief of yours."
But Aqualad stepped forward, his face set with determination. "We know it was you," he said, his voice low and intense. "We have evidence linking you to the thefts, although you are not covered in armor."
"Thefts?" I whispered to myself, I've always done a clean job so I wondered what they meant by that and what he meant by armor.
I just laughed. "Evidence? That's amusing." I said as I disembarked from my bike to face the kids who wanted to play hero.
"Surrender now or get taken down by force." Superboy said as he seemed to have used his X-ray vision to look through my bag and seen the mother box.
"He has the prototype mother box in that bag." Superboy said out loud. "There's something weird with his mask, I can't see through it."
"What do you mean you can't see through his mask?" Asked Aqualad who seemed a bit aggravated by me feigning innocence.
"I mean I can't see his face, it's like his mask is made of lead."
"Seems someone came prepared." Remarked Kid Flash as he raced at me, in attempt to snatch the bag off me. But I simply create a powerful gust of wind on his path, knocking him off his feet.
"He has powers, be careful."
"Noted." Kid Flash said in a painful, yet sarcastic manner as he groaned in pain."
"You have no idea what I'm capable of. Do you really think you can stop me?" I asked as a smirk grew beneath my mask, I didn't mind toying with them for a while. They were perfect for testing put how well I would fair against heroes.
"Only one way to find out." Superboy flew towards me, fists raised. I reduced the radius of the deflective field around me and took it to the surface of my skin so they won't even get the slightest hint of the true nature of my powers.
As he got close into my personal space, he throw a right hook at me. I kicked the ground and accelerated to his side, delivering a punch powerful enough to give the kryptonian a nose bleed as I knocked him off his feet and tumbling through the air. I smirked at him. "Is that all you've got? You're just an over powered child playing dress-up."I taunted.
The rest were instantly thrown into a frenzy, as they tried to comprehend how I was able to do that to Superboy of all people.
Miss Martian tried to use her telekinesis to control my movements, but my iron will was stronger than what she could dare to control. I deflected her attacks with ease, sending them back towards her and knocking her off her feet.
Aqualad immediately summoned a tidal-like wave to knock me off balance, but I just laughed and used my powers to create a vortex, trapping him in a swirling mass of water.
As the fight continued, I grew more and more confident with how feeble their attacks seemed against me. "You're wasting your time," I said, my voice dripping with contempt. "You can't take me down so easily, I'm not like the guys you're used to dealing with on a regular basis. I'm different, and I'll show you the difference in our power level."
But it seemed like they had no intention of giving up. They each fought with all their strength, hoping to find a weakness as they hit me with a series of individual attacks. Then Superboy had an idea I might just call a stupid one, considering who he was facing against.
He used his heat vision, hoping to catch me off guard. I raised my hand and the blast deflected back at him the moment it made contact with me. I raised my hand so it'd create a misconception that I needed to do that in order to deflect their attacks.
Superboy fell to the ground in pain, and I hovered in the air above him, a triumphant look on my face beneath my mask. "You see?" I said. "You can't beat me. Children should always chew what they can handle and never bite more than they can chew."
But then Artemis shot me with an arrow, which seemed like a lame idea at first but as I raised my hand so it deflects back at her, the head of the arrow emitted a high-pitched noise on impact with my defective field, which made me falter, my concentration broke for a split second.
I twitched my head a bit as the sound was extremely irritating to my ears, I canceled the effect of the sound on my ears by nullifying the noise frequency. Before going ahead to crush it beneath my feet.
I Immediately noticed a shower of arrows headed towards me, not knowing what surprise each of them held within them was a real drag to me. I used my telekinetic powers to put an instant stop to them before they came in contact with me.
I controlled them and spread each arrow to face a member, then let it fly with twice the velocity it initially had. Kid Flash dodged his, Superboy was hit with an electrocution arrow which did nothing to him. The arrow headed towards Aqualad burst into a net, which he simply cut through. One headed for Wonder girl as she continuously swung her lasso whip in circular motion, creating a shield against the arrow.
With a sudden burst of speed, Wonder Girl charged at me, her fists flying. I raised my arm towards her direction as she came in contact with the field, which sent her flying backwards.
She wasn't one to give up easily. She landed gracefully on her feet and spun around as she lifted into the air, unleashing a powerful roundhouse kick to the side of my head.
I grabbed her leg and nullified the momentum she had on her and in the process, stopped the kick. Condensing the field around my fist, I delivered a super punch directly beneath her diaphragm and to her solar plexus. A punch that'd definitely knock thirty years from her life span.
She flew through the air and slammed against a nearby car, destroying the windscreen and the front of the vehicle. "Wonder girl!!!" They yelled in unison.
Aqualad rose water from beneath me and immediately trapped me inside something like a condensed water bubble, as Kid Flash threw a lightning bolt at me. A combined attack.
The lightning hit the condensed water bubble and it led to an explosion as thick fog filled the air in a form of white steam, due to the collision of the condensed water bubble and the lightning.
There was a slight moment of silence mixed with a feeling of anticipation and suspense as everyone wondered if that attack did the trick.
"Don't let your guard down, he's still standing." Superboy warned the rest as he peeped through the fog, using his X-ray vision.
"Nice move," I said, chuckling darkly. "But it's going to take a lot more than that to bring me down." The field which I had condensed around the upper layer of my skin and throughout my body, had protected me from that attack. Not like it would have been any effective against me, electricity was my turf and I could manipulate the heat energy from the blast.
*Gasp*
Most of the members gasped as they saw a red eye pupil which radiated through the dark and foggy atmosphere. A red and menacing eye which penetrated through cloudy fog with the intention to kill fully visible within it.
Kid Flash dashed at me, taking advantage of the fog as he circled around me in order to create a vortex with me at its eye. The air pressure would have made it difficult to breathe as it pressed against the lungs and crushed some organs, which would eventually lead to severe internal bleeding.
The wind mixed with the steam in the air and formed a vortex which Kid Flash was rapidly building up, with a wave of my hand, I instantly put a stop to it and used the recoil to knock Kid Flash into the air.
I accelerated at him as he flew through the air, having a look of despair on his face when he saw the menacing red glow in my eyes up close. That instant I formed a blow with a red-yellow glow emitting off it, as electricity surrounded my fist.
I had formed a condensed deflective field around my fist and borrowed a piece from the lightning he emitted out of him. I increased the voltage and the intensity of the electricity as I delivered an annihilatory punch to his chest.
The force and pace at which he flew downward made it seem like he zapped through the air and onto the ground. The rest of the team who could move at the moment ran to him, looking over the deep crater and seeing the unconscious boy with blood flowing out of his mouth surrounded with debris all around.
