Chapter 38: Razor's Edge Charade

The hallway outside of Aster’s room was abandoned. No need for staff in this part of the keep, they were all needed to wait on the special guests downstairs. Jace brought Aster around the corner from the stairs, kissed him lovingly and quickly, and ran his hand through his hair. A silent exchange of reassurance and strength, even as they heard the hurried, approaching footsteps of the man following them.

Kraegen had barely rounded the corner before Jace’s hand curled around his throat and he slammed him into the opposite wall. A dangerous snarl bubbled in Jace’s throat as he flashed his fangs at Kraegen.

“Give me ONE good reason not to rip out your windpipe and shove it up your—”

“J- Rowan!” Aster called out, crossing his arms. “Not yet. He needs his windpipe in order to answer our questions.”

Kraegen held his hands up in surrender, just barely managing to gurgle out: “If I can have a second?”
