2. Surgery

LARA'S POV

I arrived at the box, and honestly, I have no idea what's going on around me. All I wanted to know is how Cam is doing. When I entered the box, it didn't take long for both my mother and grandmother to come next to me to hug me, but at this moment it was as if nothing around me existed. I just wanted to know what was going on with Cam.

I left my helmet on the table nearby and I could hear someone saying something, but I have no idea what if they are saying it to me. I started walking to the back of the box to get to where Cameron is, I had to know what the fuck was going on, and I'm about to head over there when someone got in front of me.

"Lara, sei o que queres facer, pero non podes ir alí. (Lara, I know what you want to do, but you can't go there)" I took a deep breath before answering Grandma, because I don't want to answer her badly, or anyone else, to be honest, but they are making it more than complicated for me.

"Abuela, xuroche que neste momento non me importa nada, polo que che pido que apaetes (Grandma, I swear that right now I don't care about anything, so I just ask you to step aside)" And of course, she shook her head and stood in front of me.

"Non podo deixarche ir así. Prometoche que non tardarán moito en decirnos algo (I can't let you go like this. I promise it won't take long for them to come and let us know)" I closed my eyes for a second, because I really didn't want to explode right here. "How are you so sure?" I opened my eyes and looked back at my grandmother, who ended up putting her hand on my arm. "Because the same thing happened when it was your accident. Now do me the favour of going into the box and sitting down, you're pale."

I nodded and went back into the box going to the rest room where Eli was, who doesn't take long to come to hug me and run her hand behind my back. "You'll see how he's going to be okay"

I just sat there with everyone walking around the box and my family was next to me or nearby, I guess to avoid anything I could do. My gaze was fixed on the screens that were focused on what was happening on the track.

The minutes went by, and it didn't seem like they were any closer to getting Cameron out of the car, and after I don't know how many more minutes later, the car catches fire, which causes me to quickly get up from the place I was sitting in. "Lara, don't even think about it..."

I wasn't really hearing anything; I was counting the seconds in my head. The marshals started to put out the fire, but at times it seemed to get more fanned, and as the seconds passed, I began to get hysterical.

"Lara.... Listen, they're going to take him out... I assure you" I just shook my head, because I didn't know what else to do, I couldn't lose Cam... I don't want to lose him and couldn't do anything to help him.

Isabelle eventually appeared in front of me, looking away from the screens and saying things I have no idea about. In my mind everything is chaos right now I couldn't understand how Isa stays so calm when her son could be dead.

"Lara... Lara, they've already taken Cam out, let's go" It is at that moment my attention turns to Isabelle's eyes, who had a couple of tears running down her face. I knew she has put up with the situation. "You heard right, now let's go and see him. Did you change your mind about changing?" I denied, "So let's go? You don't mind getting in the car, do you?"

I turned in the direction of my mother who had the keys to the car. I knew she wouldn't let me drive, and if it were in another situation I wouldn't care, but I'm completely sure I could have an anxiety attack at any moment, and I don't want to hurt any of them, so I turned in the opposite direction to the exit towards the parking lot.

"Where are you supposed to go now?" I didn't even bother to answer them. I walked out of the box in the direction of the wall and I could feel everyone's gaze on me, which at the moment I don't give a shit about.

When I got to where the man I needed more than anything at this moment, I don't need to do anything as he turns in my direction. "Lara..." I could see his worried face, but it isn't the most important thing right now "I need you to drive that fucking car," I said, "I can't..." I sighed and turned to go back to the box, "Then I'll drive it."

As soon as Eric heard my words, he turned around with a surprised face, but I'm ready to get in a car and drive me to the hospital. "You can't drive, just as you are right now, Lara" I turned half my body in his direction "Stop me if you can"

And with that, I started walking again, but not long later, I notice how a hand closes around my arm and turns me. I nodded and walked back in the direction of where the car was. I had to wait a couple of seconds for the rest to get to where the car was, but once they arrived, we left.

When we arrived at the hospital, we were told Cam is having a surgery and they would notify us of any progress as soon as they finished, which would be a couple of hours.

During that time, I sat in one of the chairs in the waiting room and waited. I could feel everyone's gaze on me, but right now I didn't care about anything going on around me, I just wanted to know how my husband is doing.

ELISABETH'S POV

We are sitting in the waiting room of the hospital, and practically all of us had our eyes fixed on Lara, because since we had arrived, all she did was eat a little and nothing else.

Her mother, grandmother and mother-in-law were with her, but she didn't listen to anything they told her, I guess she is pretty much inside her head. "I'm scared," I turned in the direction of Bianca, who is next to me, staring at her sister. "What?" I started running my hand down her back because I could feel how tense she had suddenly become. "How will Lara be after this" I stared at her, because I had no idea what she was talking about, but I knew she's going to tell me when she felt ready to talk about it. "I don't want her to be the same Lara she was after Dad's accident" I pulled her closer to me and started running my hand over her arm instead of her back.

"Love, that's not going to happen. Cameron will be fine," my wife shook her head and stared at Lara. "I'm serious, Cameron will get out of this, those cars are very safe. I know as soon as he comes out of the surgery, he will do whatever it takes so your sister doesn't get the same as when it was your father's" She closed her eyes and I saw a couple of tears escape her "Do you think?" "Of course I think so, do you know how much he loves your sister and how much he would do for her to make her well?" Bianca nodded and the rest of the time we're silent.

Three hours later, the doctor exited through the doors leading to the surgery room, prompting Isabelle and Lara to quickly get up from their chairs.

"Are you relatives of Cameron Edwards?" They both nodded, and the doctor took out his glasses. The look he had was one of concern, which I don't like so much. "The surgery went well and without complications, but due to the state of his leg, we had to amputate it."

Isabelle put her hands to her mouth while Lara stood there without moving a muscle. It didn't take long for Bianca to go to her sister's side and stand beside her, while both their mother and grandmother stood behind them. "But he will be fine, right?"

"The patient will recover from the accident. Once the leg wound heals, you can start trying out prostheses, but in the meantime, we would like him to recover. His back is a little damaged, but with rest it will pass." Lara nodded and after a few seconds of the rest asking questions, she told Lara and Isabelle they could stop by to see Cameron in a while.

Lara went back to the chair where she sat without doing anything or saying anything, but I could tell she's calmer and even had a small smile on her face. When they were called, they both went to the doctor and we sat down and waited for them to come out to try to convince Lara to go to the hotel, change and rest.
