6. Where did she go?

CAMERON'S POV

Eli had left a couple of minutes ago, and I had stood there, not understanding anything she said, but as the minutes passed, I decided it's better to wait, because it was very likely Eli would tell me that to make me react. I'm completely sure Lara would come home tonight.

The hours were passing, and I couldn't sit still thinking about where Lara is. What's more, I went out to the beach because I know it's something it relaxes her, but she wasn't there. I started looking all over the village to see if I could find her, but everyone told me they hadn't seen her since yesterday.

After walking for an hour or so, I decided it was best to go to her grandmother's house, since it's the most likely place she would be. When I arrived, I rang and it's my mother who opened the door for me and the smile she had on her face collapsed as soon as she saw me.

"What do you need, Cameron?" Mom asked and I leaned as best I could against the front of the house to keep some of my weight off. "Do you know anything about Lara?" I asked and she nodded, rolling her eyes. "Yes, but I don't understand what has to do with you right now." She replied coldly, "Mom, she's my wife."

"So now she's your wife." She answered, "She always was." I assured, because she is and always would be if it were for me. "Well, it's not what it seems, if I'm honest. Is this how I taught you to treat your wife?" My mother asked ironically and I denied, because it wasn't something she taught me. "Mom, understand…" I started, but stopped the moment her hand went up in the air. "I understand it hurt you to lose your career the way it did. I did, but Lara does everything in her power and more to help you. You just don't let yourself be helped..."

Just at that moment Carmela appears, who ends up putting her hand on my mother's shoulder, who ends up entering the house without saying anything else to me. "You seem to be feeling better." She said with a small smile on her face. "Carmela, tell me Lara is here with you." I begged and she denied "No, don't you know she's going to leave?"

"Where to?" I asked again "I can't tell you that. I promised her I wouldn't tell you or Bianca." Carmela responded simply "Why?" I questioned "So you don't go after them." She said, "So what Eli told me is true?" I asked, stunned, "What did she say to you?" she asked curiously. "That both Lara and her would leave."

Carmela nodded "It's true. You need to separate for a while Cam. You are not well; neither are my granddaughters and Eli." she assured "I don't understand…" I began "Cam, I know these last few months haven't been the best for you, and I swear I understand that. You lost your career very suddenly and not in the way you wanted. Right now, you are taking out your frustrations with my granddaughter, and I assure you it's not the best for either of them."

"For both?" I asked confused. "I'm sure Eli told you even though Lara didn't want you to know." Carmela responded "What am I supposed to…?" It's at that moment I remember what Eli told me about Lara before I walked out the door. That I would lose my son and my wife because of the way I treat her.

"For your expression I suppose Eli told you." she assured "Is Lara pregnant?" I asked and she nodded. "Yes, Cam." She stated "Now less than ever I can let her go, Carmela. I need to know where they are going." I begged, "I can't tell you that, I promised Lara and I'm going to keep that."

I knew she isn't going to tell me anything, and at this moment the only person who could help me is Bianca, because I'm more than sure Eli didn't tell her anything, and Bianca is the first one interested in getting Eli back, just like me with Lara.

"Okay, thanks anyway." I said, starting to turn around to leave. "Why don't you stay for dinner?" Carmela asked and I denied "It's not necessary, thank you, I have to do a couple of things first." I said even though I only had to do one thing. "Whatever, take care of yourself Cam." With that, I started walking in the direction of our house, and the moment I got a little away from Carmela's house, I picked up my phone and called Bianca.

"Cameron?" Bianca asked, surprised I would say "Bianca, we need to go to the airport now." I said without further ado and accelerating my pace as best I could, "And what are we doing at the airport?" She asked confused. "Lara is leaving and I need to avoid it." I responded "She leaves?" She questioned "What you hear, but Eli also goes with her."

"Where are you?" She asked, letting me hear background noise. "Going home." I informed "Then stay wherever you are. It will take me two minutes to arrive." With that, Bianca hung up and I stayed where I am. A couple of minutes later, Bianca's car appears and it doesn't take me long to get into it and it for her to start.

"Por qué Eli vai con ela? E por qué ostia marcha Lara? (Why is Eli leaving with her? And why the hell is Lara leaving?)" Bianca asked and even though I didn't understand everything she's saying, I understood she's referring to what I had told her about Lara and Eli. "I don't know why Eli leaves, and I'm not sure why Lara does either."

"Tell me you haven't argued again." She asked, momentarily looking away from the road. "We've done it." I responded even though it hadn't been an argument at all. "You should stop arguing with my sister, none of us want to help you out of pity…" she began, "Bianca, I don't want to talk about this."

"PERO VALO PUTO FACER. POR CULPA TÚA, NOASAS MULLERES ESTÁN MARCHANDO!!!! (BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO FUCKING DO IT. BECAUSE OF YOU OUR WIVES ARE LEAVING)" she screamed frustrated "Eli isn't leaving because of me, but because of you." I assured, because I'm not going to take all the blame for something that isn't my fault. I could see how she sighed and accelerated the car a little more, but after a few more seconds, Bianca braked the car suddenly, making me put my hands on the dashboard. "Why are you stopping?" I asked confused "Because we're not going to the airport." she simply responded "What? Why not?" I asked even more confused. "Cameron, we have hurt the girls, and I can get an idea of why you want to go after Lara so badly, but if they left, it was for a reason."

"What are you talking about?" I asked, "Lara doesn't need to stress right now, and I'm completely sure she will at home. Did you know she had to go back on anxiety pills? Since everything started with your accident and your arguments, the anxiety returned." She informed me and all the air in my lungs escaped "I didn't have…"

"Of course, you didn't have the slightest idea, all you do is worry about yourself and think we feel sorry for your ass when we want to help you because of what is in your mind, that's why you don't know anything that happens around you. That and the bottle of rum you always seem to have on hand." She said the last bit more abruptly. "I'm a shitty husband to Lara."

"Right now, I'm not going to deny it to you, because you are, but my sister loves you, Cam. If she left, it's to clear her head a little and not get so stressed." My sister-in-law said more softly "I don't know what to do to get her back. What if she finds someone who treats her better than I do?" I asked, thousands of thoughts piling up in my mind.

"She won't, because yeah, these last few months between you may not have been the best, but all the time you spent before the accident was great for Lara, and no one will be able to take her away from you because Lara loves you and only you." Bianca assured, "I don't know what to do, Bianca." I said, putting my hands on my face "Let's give them the time they want. First, we both have to heal to get the girls back."

"Do you think we will make it?" I asked with some hope of getting it "Cameron, you're an exceptional F1 driver. You had an accident that ruined your career, but that didn't take away the pilot inside you. If you put your mind to it, you will get what you want." She said "And where can I start?"

"First of all, we will have to take away all the alcohol you have at home. You tend to say more stupid things when you're drunk, and I'll tell you, Lara hates it." She said, turning the car to head towards what I assume is our house. "She never told me anything."

"Of course not, she doesn't mind if you have a couple of drinks, but she really hates alcohol." Bianca stated, "What else should I improve?" I asked "You should let us help you, we don't do it out of pity, we love you Cam. How would you feel if Lara were the one in your place and you were in hers?

"In fucking hell." I said quickly and without hesitation "Well that's how she feels. Think about how you would feel in her situation." She answered, "Do you think I can call her?" I asked after a couple of minutes of silence. "Lara probably won't answer you. I'm completely sure she's angry, but above all hurt, she won't answer our calls even if we wanted to."

"Why won't answer you?" I asked, "Since I cheated on Eli, things haven't been the same between us, and if Eli is with her, she won't answer me." Lara's sister responded with a final sigh, as if she's hurt by the situation she is in with her sister, which I'm pretty sure she is. "Do you think Eli will tell her not to answer your calls?"

"No, what's more, Eli answers more of my calls than Lara does. What happens is that Lara easily gets under the skin of others and understands them. She's mad at me for what I did to Eli." Bianca responded, "But from what I understand you were drunk." I said, trying to remember what Eli had told me. "And I was, but it doesn't explain anything and it doesn't make Eli feel any better that I did it."

"I know you will get Eli back; she loves you." I responded "How about we help each other?" She asked after a few seconds "What are you talking about?" I asked, "I'll help you get better and, in some way, Lara will see it, and you'll help me get better and do something, so Eli will forgive me." She said, with a hopeful tone. "It seems perfect to me."

"Okay, then let's go to your house to get rid of all your alcohol and then we will go to the house that was yours." My sister-in-law said and I couldn't help but frown at the last part. "Why do we have to go there?" I asked confused "So you don't just focus on the memories of what these past few years were like, but don't worry, in a few weeks we'll be back there, what do you think?"

"It's not my favourite idea, but it works for me." Bianca turned around and we headed to Lara and my house. Once we arrived, we got out of the car, and the truth is I could already feel how my leg is starting to bother me, so the moment we entered the house, I went to the kitchen to take a pill.

"Are you okay, Cam?" Bianca asked from the door. "Yes, my leg just hurts a little." I responded "It's normal, if you went to grandma's house, it's already more than what you've done in the last couple of weeks" She said with a small smile on her face "I know. I want you to help me with this."

"I'll do it, and you'll see how you'll be able to do practically whatever you want. There will be nothing that will prevent you from being able to play with your child in the future." She assured now with a big smile on her face and a small smile appeared on my face, but it soon left, because apparently, everyone knew we would have a child except me.

"Lara was looking for the best time to tell you." Bianca said when she noticed the look on her face. "Was there a better time to tell me?" I asked, embarrassed by what was happening and not hearing it from Lara. "A moment when you weren't arguing, that would be the moment my sister would tell you."

"You're right. I feel like a shitty person." I sighed "But you're not. You're going through a tough time in your life, Lara understands it, really. Why don't you let Lara help you?" I asked "It's not I don't want her to help me, it's just whenever I look into her eyes, I see pity." I said, because that's something I'm more than convinced of. "What you see is pain. Lara doesn't like seeing you like this."

"It may be, but in my mind it's like it's grief." I said with a shrug. "Why did you help Lara when she had knee surgery?" Bianca asked, radically changing the subject, "Because I love her and I didn't like seeing the pain in her eyes she has at the time."

"Well, the same thing happens to Lara, she wants to help you. Now please take the bottles and let's go throw them down the sink." Bianca responded, "Can't we take them anywhere? The bar for example?" I asked. "It's better to throw them away, believe me." She insisted, "As you wish."

With that, the two of us started taking bottles of alcohol from the house and pouring their contents down the sink. Once we finished, I went to the bedroom to get clothes, and it hurt me to see Lara's side with practically no clothes on, which told me she's going away for a long time. I just hope I can get her back soon, but not before I'm better.
