Epilogue

CAMERON'S POV

20 years later

"Cameron, everything is going to be okay" Bianca said next to me, and I know it will be. It was the last race of the season and the last for Lara who, at 42 years old, decided to retire from competition, at least in terms of driving, I know we would both be on the team of whatever it was, even Bianca would be. I also knew the reason why Lara had lasted so long in F1... for our daughter. Lúa's dream was to compete with her mother, she always dreamed about it since she was a little girl and it came true this year when they offered her a contract on Lara's team, which had excited her.

In Lúa's first two years in F1, no one knew she was our daughter. It's how she wanted it to be, she wanted to make a name for herself, and she achieved it, in the second year she had already finished runner-up, improving Lara's record of finishing fourth in the world championship, but in her third year they discovered she was ours. daughter, getting more teams interested in her, but we never let her get too much to her head, mostly because we knew what this world could be like, and we would like our daughter enjoying the competition her mother and I love.

"Aunt Bianca is right, dad. Everything's going to be okay" Jax says next to me. Everyone who knew me knew it's difficult for me to stay calm on this circuit, because it was the circuit where I had had the accident that ended my career, and I'm afraid something would happen to my girls. I didn't want them to go through the same thing I had gone through. I shook my head a little to get those thoughts out of my mind and began to focus on the two people with whom I spent almost all my time. "I know, I know. Where are your mother and sister?" I asked curiously even though I had an idea of where they were. "Still under the car" Jax informed with a big smile on his face and Bianca laughed. "I'm not surprised. Do you know where Dominic is?" Bianca asked about her son "With them."

We both laugh and relax on the couch in Lara and Lúa's changing room, because we also know it won't take them long to return, after all, the race starts in an hour and a half, they should prepare for it. And that's just when the door opens, letting me see one of my favorite people. "And I was thinking I would have to come down and kick your ass" Bianca said, denying and Lara rolled her eyes. "You would like the possibility" my wife said with a smile on her face.

"Come on girls, it's time to get ready for the race" says Jax, standing next to the stretcher to give them both a massage, and even though Lara wasn't used to doing it, Jax had insisted she had to do it, that she would feel better at driving the car, and since then, he always gives them both a massage despite being Lúa's physical trainer. "Start with your sister" says Lara, sitting next to me, making me put an arm over her shoulders. "And take your time Jax, we're not in such a hurry" she says, probably because she wants him to take more time with Lúa than with her. Jax, Lúa and Dom go to the stretcher to talk to each other, meanwhile Lara, Bianca and I are on the couch looking in their direction "How is Lúa?" I asked my wife, since I know she must be nervous, considering she's competing for the world title with her mother. "She's nervous, it was to be expected. I just hope at least Jax can loosen her up a little" she responded.

"Well, just like you were when your first title was decided," Bianca pointed out with a smile on her face. "I know, and I understand her, but the only thing I want is for her to focus on having a good time" Lara said and I nodded, understanding her, but if our daughter had something, it was competition in her blood, just like Lara.

"Tell me you won't let her win on purpose" Bianca asked and Lara denied, letting out a laugh "No way. I know what my daughter is like, and I assure you the last thing she wants is for me to let her win. Besides, it's not funny at all like this win the title" my wife responded, and I nodded, because I agreed with her, it wasn't even funny. "So, I understand you're going to do whatever it takes to win your sixth championship" Bianca continued. "Obviously. Not everyone can say they have six titles" she said, and I couldn't help but laugh. "That's true, but I'm going to make sure no one touches the cars and the rest of the things" Bianca said, getting up from the couch, saying goodbye to the kids and walking out the door, practically leaving the two of us alone. "Are you okay? " My wife asked after a few minutes of silence and turning to focus her attention on me "Of course I am" I assured, knowing perfectly well what she was referring to. "Are you sure?" She insisted and I nodded, because now I'm just nervous, it wasn't the anxiety I had at first. "Everything will be fine, I assure you, darling," I said, trying to calm her down. The last thing I needed is Lara be stressed. "You know if you need me, you just have to say the words" my wife assured, and I nodded again. "I know. It's really going to be okay, honey. You just have to have a good time out there."

"You know I will" Lara said with a big smile, leaving her head on my shoulder and hugging me "Do you miss getting in the car?" My wife asked after a while without taking her eyes off our children. "I do, but I thought I would miss it a lot more than I really do" I informed her, and she raised her head from my shoulder to look at me with a smile. "How so?" she asked curiously.

"It's weird and I couldn't explain what's going on in my head, but I always thought I'd miss it. Maybe it helps when we go karting, but I don't miss it that much" I answered sincerely and in the best way I knew how to explain. "I knew you would like to be with the engineers " she said with a big smile on her face "You were clearly right, but I still don't like it like riding in the car" I informed her and she nodded "I don't think we'll ever find something we love as much as we do get in the car" she said and I denied "Of course, I love you more than the car"

Lara started laughing and not much later, it was Lara's turn, while Lúa sat next to me with a focused face. "Don't stress out more than necessary, Lúa. The most important thing is not to win," I said, giving her a kiss on her temple "And I don't care if I win the championship today or not. I know I'll end up winning it soon" she informed, and I laughed, because if it weren't for the age difference between them, I could almost guarantee my wife and her were sisters "So what's with that face?" I asked curiously "I'll miss competing against mom" she replied and I put an arm over her shoulders, pulling her closer to me and she ended up letting her head rest on my shoulder "Maybe you'll miss it, and believe me, she will do too, but do you want me to tell you a secret?"

Lúa quickly nodded and I brought her a little closer to me so Lara wouldn't hear me even though I know she wouldn't care. "If your mother continued competing until now it was because she could do it with you. We knew it was one of your dreams and that's why she endured it the best she could" I reported and she denied "But if that was the case, she could have stopped competing three years ago" she pointed out and I denied "She could have done it, but one of her dreams was to be able to share a team with you and fight for the championship like you're doing this year" I pointed out and a smile appeared on her face. "I never thought I'd be on the same team as mom, honestly."

"Come on Lúa, you're an exceptional driver as your mother is. Any team would like to have both of you on the same team" I said, because I knew it was like that "Do you want me to tell you something? I hope you don't mind" she murmured after for a while "Sure" I responded quickly "I would have also loved to compete with you" my daughter whispered and a smile appeared on my face "I know, and even though I know it's not the same as competing in a Formula 1, karts are a way to compete between the four of us" I said softly. "I know. Now please, I ask you not to stress. Nothing will happen to us" she assured, repeating her mother's words. "I know, now go get dressed, you have to get in the car soon" I informed, watching as Lara got up from the stretcher with a smile on her face, probably having heard part of our conversation.

Quickly, they both went to put on their suits while I waited for them to come down. Once we did it, they both got in the car, me putting Lúa's seatbelt and Bianca doing the same as Lara, they went out to the track to see how it is and test her for a couple of laps. When they finished, Bianca, Dominic, Jax and I went to the grill where the cars could be.

Once they got off, they went to the engineers to adjust their plans and not much later they finished, heading in our direction. "How's the track?" Bianca asked curiously. "Well, a little hotter than I would like, but I hope it cools down in the next few minutes" my wife said, standing next to me. I kissed her on the temple and put my arm around her shoulders. We spent the next few minutes talking about everything that had nothing to do with the race that would start in a few minutes.

When it was time to get into the car, Lara hugged Lúa, gave her a kiss on the temple and went to her car while I put the seatbelt on our daughter. "Have a good time out there, honey" I said with a smile on my face and giving her a kiss on the helmet, and then I went to my wife's car while Bianca was heading to Lúa's car. "Have a good time, love. I love you more than anything," I said "I love you too. Anything you need let me know on the radio" she said, and I nodded "I will" I gave her a kiss on the cheek and then on the helmet. I step away from the car as they both start it at the same moment and look at each other, giving a thumbs up, something they used to do when they were on the grid together.

We all moved to the edges of the track so the cars could do their warm-up lap. Once the last car passed, we all ran to the pits to get to our jobs. I quickly put on my headphones and started looking at the screens to make sure everything is fine, and I could see how both cars skidded on the curve where I had the accident, but they both immediately assured me everything was fine and that they were fine, which I appreciate they did because honestly, I could have a heart attack seeing things like that, especially with them.

In the race Lúa passed her mother, and I could see how Lara stayed a little further behind, but according to the data everything is fine with her car, which makes me think she is saving the wheel and preparing to protect our daughter's position, which Lúa wouldn't like very much, I have no doubt about that. "Cam, Lúa will end up wearing out the wheels before her stop if she continues in that rush to leave me behind" my wife said after a few laps watching our daughter run away from her, and being more than clear to me about what she wants me to do "Lúa, honey, At this rate the wheels are going to wear out in just a few laps." I informed our daughter, not telling her it was her mother who had said it, which she probably knew anyway. "Dille a mamá que corra, porque sei que o coche da máis do que ela está dando. Non quero que me deixe ganar. (Tell mom to run, because I know that car gives more than what she is giving. I don't want her to let me win)" said Lúa frustrated and in Galician, now which was something both kids used to do, and even though I don't know how to speak it completely, I understand it perfectly. "Lara, honey, your daughter says you need to speed up, she knows the car can go faster, and she doesn't want you to let her win" I informed my wife who burst out laughing. "If she really thinks I'm going to let her win, she's wrong, it's just a completely different strategy."

I couldn't help but laugh and roll my eyes. Something told me Lara is going for a one-stop strategy, which would be difficult to achieve, but if anyone is capable of achieving it, it's Lara. "Perfect, I'll pass the information on to her" I said, repeating the words my wife told me to our daughter, who laughed and deduced her mother wanted to go to a stop.

"This is going to be interesting in the end" Bianca said next to me with a smile on her face, and sure enough. Lara made a stop and, at the end of the race, both of them were almost parallel, and they crossed the finish line in parallel, with the same lap time, which is somewhat spectacular because both were tied on points and refused to take the prize for only one, so they ended up because they would share it. Both of my girls were world champions, and I couldn't be prouder of them.

As soon as they got off the podium, Bianca, Lara's mother, mine, Jax and I went to hug them, a large crowd of people forming, and I couldn't be happier. I could hear the laughter of my daughter and wife, and when they decided to separate, I went to Lara, who was watching how the rest continued celebrating with Lúa, who has the World Cup trophy. "You did a great race, darling," I said, giving her a kiss. "I know, and even though I love this sport and miss it, I'm ready to leave the competition and spend more time with you" My wife responded with a big smile on her face. "I like the sound of that," I said, returning the smile. "Me too. We'll have more sex now the kids won't be stuck at home all the time" she pointed out with a smile. "Am I all I'm good for? For you to have sex whenever you want?" I asked, asking the same question as years ago and from the smile that appeared on my wife's face again, I knew she remembered that too. "Partly yes, but I also happen to love you and I can't do anything about it." She informed me "I love you, Lara" I said after a few seconds in silence and joining our foreheads, our lips practically glued "I love you Cam"
