Chapter 55

Our innings came to a close at 272 runs in 48.4 overs, with all our players dismissed, leaving me alone. Unfortunately, as per the rules, a lone player cannot bat, so there was nothing more I could do. However, I was satisfied with my individual performance, having scored 131 runs off just 72 balls with a strike rate of 183.

As I walked back to the dugout, my teammates greeted me with a round of applause and pats on the back. But before I could even have a moment to myself, someone stopped me for a brief chat. I excused myself and quickly headed to the locker room to freshen up. After washing up, I spent some time in the restroom before joining my teammates in the lunch room.

I declined the offer of food but grabbed a carbonated drink from the fridge and sat down with my teammates. I sipped on my drink while taking a short walk around to clear my head. I was notified of an interview, but I had to decline it as I was still feeling somewhat uneasy.

The resting hour went by quickly, and now it was England's turn to bat. They had a mammoth target to chase if they wanted to win this match. Our bowlers were fired up and ready to go, but England's openers were no pushovers either. They were looking to start strong and build a solid foundation for their team's chase.

[Post Match Commentary]

"What a stunning display of batting by Vipin. He showed incredible skill and temperament, and his strike rate of 183 was simply outstanding. He single-handedly took the game away from England, and his innings will be remembered for a long time." said Sunil Gavaskar, clearly impressed by Vipin's performance.

"And let's not forget the other players who contributed to this victory. Our bowlers were spot on, and the fielding was exceptional. It was a complete team effort, and this victory will do wonders for India's confidence going forward." added Harsha Bhogle.

"Yes, he made it look so easy out there. He had no trouble chasing down the ball with ease and comfort. He also showed some great fielding skills, which played a crucial role in dismissing some of the English batsmen.", said Sunil Gavaskar

"So, India have displayed their skills and talent in all three departments of the game: bowling, batting and fielding. They have proved that they are a formidable force in world cricket and that they can beat any team on any given day.", said Harsha Bhogle.

"This win will give them a much-needed boost in confidence as they look forward to the rest of the series. They have taken a 1-0 lead in this seven-match series and will be hoping to continue their winning momentum and clinch the series with another dominant performance in the next match." said Sunil Gavaskar.

"The next match will be held on March 31 at Faridabad, which is expected to be a packed house with thousands of fans cheering for their teams. It will be another exciting contest between these two teams." said Harsha Bhogle.

"We hope you enjoyed our coverage of this match. Thank you for tuning in and stay tuned for more updates on this series. This is Sunil Gavaskar signing off along with Harsha Bhogle."

[Post Match Press Conference]

"Congratulations Vipin on your fantastic performance today! You have been brilliant with both bat and ball. How do you feel?" asked one journalist.

"I feel very happy and proud of myself. I have always believed in my abilities and today I proved it to everyone." I said

"You scored a magnificent century off just 72 balls with eight fours and six sixes. What was your strategy while batting?" the journalist asked

"My strategy was simple. Just hit every ball out of the park. I don't care who is bowling or what the pitch is like. I just back myself to clear the boundary every time. I don't play for singles or doubles when I am in my zone. I play for hits." I replied

"You also took 2 wickets for just 32 runs in your ten overs spell. How did you manage to bowl so well?" The journalist asked

"I have a natural talent for bowling fast and swinging the ball both ways. I don't need any coaching or guidance. I just bowl with my heart and soul. I don't fear any batsman or any situation. I just go for wickets." I replied with a smug smile.

"You single-handedly won this match for India with your superb all-round performance. How do you rate this as your best performance ever?" The journalist asked.

"This is definitely my best performance ever but not the last one. I will keep performing like this in every match and break all the records in cricket history. I am not satisfied with just one match-winning performance. I want to win every match for India and make my country proud." I replied

"You are only 16 years old but you have already made a name for yourself in international cricket. How do you handle the pressure and expectations from your fans and critics?" The journalist asked

"Pressure and expectations are nothing for me. They only motivate me to do better and better. I don't care what people say about me or think about me. They can praise me or criticize me but they can never ignore me." I said

"You have lived in Delhi and UP, which is known for producing some of the finest cricketers in India. How does it feel to be part of this legacy?" The journalist asked

"It feels great but let me tell you one thing…I am not here to follow anyone's legacy…I am here to create my own legacy…I am not here to be compared with anyone…I am here to be unique…I am not here to be second best…I am here to be number one." I replied with determination.

"Thank you Vipin for your time and congratulations once again on your amazing performance today!" The journalist asked

"Thank you very much! Jai Hind!" I replied and went back to the team.

The next day, newspapers across the country were buzzing with an intriguing headline that read, "Vipin Chaudhary: The Next Sachin Tendulkar or a One-Hit Wonder?" Cricket fans were filled with excitement and curiosity, wondering if Vipin Chaudhary had what it takes to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar or if his impressive performance was just a fleeting moment of glory. The headline perfectly captured the uncertainty and anticipation surrounding Vipin's future in the sport.
