Broken furnitures and equipments litter, stench of rotten flesh and the only light source came from a few lot torches.
The abandoned cathedral was once a place of worship by the elves. It was one of the casualty during the great war.
One day, undead started appearing in it. Before confirming that it became a dungeon, many parties already met their demise in this place.
"Lance are you sure this is the right place?" asked by a woman elf that has long blond hair and carrying a staff with a crucifix at the tip.
"Why do you need to question everything Larissa?" asked by a dwarf with auburn hair and beard, and carries a huge hammer.
"Asking questions is a sign of intelligence Brusgror, I guess the likes of you will never understand." Larissa retorted.
"I'd take that instead of having an unrequited love for years, at least I have a loving wife at home who can assist me." Brusgror said.
"Brusgror, you..."
"Stop fighting the both of you, we're here."
The voice came from the man in front of the arguing elf and dwarf. He's wearing a fully plated platinum armor with a red cape that covers his entire back. His jet black hair complements his black eyes.
"He started it first Lance." Larissa muttered.
"Slut" Brusgror whispered
"Midget" Larissa retorted
"Sssshhhh! Look at that." Lance interrupted his bickering party members.
The two immediately stop once they heard Lance's tone. They might always fight over something petty but even them knows when to get serious, especially in their line of work. Larissa and Brusgror follows the trajectory with their eyes where Lance is pointing.
"W-what is that?" Larissa asked while covering her mouth to prevent herself from making unnecessary noise.
What they saw is a huge octopus like creature that is fully engulf by a black miasma. It has countless tentacles sprouting from its main body. The size of the creature almost filled half of the cathedral.
"This is my first time encountering a monster like that, even in Lavierre Kingdom there is no record of such a monster." Lance whispered.
"What should we do Lance? I'll follow you whatever your decision is." Brusgror said.
Lance bit his lips tight, to the point it started bleeding a little. He wants to run, they might be seasoned adventurers however the monster is too huge and strong even for them. However Lance's conscience won't let him sleep at night knowing they let this monster consume more.
"Larissa..."
"Stop it Lance, I will also stay." Larissa halts Lance's sentence. They were together long enough for her to know what he's trying to say.
"Listen to me Larissa, we need at least one of us three here to inform the nearest guild of this monster's existence." Lance whispered.
"Brusgror can go then." Larissa retorted.
"You bitch, do you think I will leave Lance in your care against that monster?" Brusgror retorted. "I may not be the traditional type but I'm still a Paladin and by the looks of that monster, holy skills should be effective against it." he added.
Brusgror is a Paladin that focuses on offensive skills and stats rather than the typical defensive type. That's why he's wielding a two handed giant hammer instead of a sword and shield which almost all Paladin used.
"I'm an Arch Priest I also know a holy spell or two." Larissa argued.
"We don't have..."
Before Lance can finish his sentence one of the tentacles from the monster launch at their direction.
Lance manage to raise his shield in time to defend against the attack from the monster.
"Enchant: Holy!" Larissa shouted. A golden light engulfs both Lance and Brusgror's weapon.
"Sanctuary!" Lance shouted once he recovered from the initial attack. The floor emits a holy aura from where they're standing. "I'll make an opening for you Brusgror!" he added.
Lance rush towards the side of the octopus like creature in order to catch its attention. The octopus like creature follows Lance movements with its multiple eyes while launching its tentacles at his direction. Lance barely avoids the incoming attacks.
"Now, Brusgror!" Lance shouted once he made sure that the full attention of the octopus like creature is directed at him.
"Divine Retribution!" Brusgor shouted while raising his giant hammer on the air. A giant four winged angel that wields a spear appear behind him. The winged angel then pierce the octopus like creature in its mouth.
The huge octopus creature release a deafening shriek. After a few minutes of quivering it finally stop moving.
"For once you ma..."
Before Larissa can finish her sentence a tentacle pierce her from her back.
"Larissa!" Lance and Brusgror shouted in unison.
"Sacred Shield!" Lance shouted.
However it ended abruptly a few seconds after activating his skill.
Brusgror took a shield from his spatial ring, he might be an offensive type but he's still a Paladin.
"Sacred Shield!" Brusgror shouted. Alas his skill also abruptly ended just after a few seconds of activation.
Seeing that their skill is not working both of them rush towards the direction of Larissa whose now vomiting blood.
Lance and Brusgror launch an attack at the tentacle that grasped Larissa.
After a few hits the tentacle finally let go of the poor elf.
"Larissa stay with us!" Lance shouted while supporting her.
"What just happened? I'm sure that the monster is dead." Brusgror wondered.
Brusgror check the direction where the huge octopus like creature lay. What he see is not a dead monster but a black miasma that engulfs the creature.
"Lance... run, take Larissa with you." Brusgror muttered.
"Wh-what are you saying Brusgror?" Lance questioned while carrying Larissa. She's still breathing albeit a little bit unstable but a few potion and first aid can easily fix.
The black miasma finally dissipates but what emerges from it is not what they were expecting. Instead of the huge octopus like creature, the silhouette is from a humanoid creature.
"Aarko kkora mer" says by the humanoid creature.
The voice is not loud nor soft, its as if the creature is communicating directly at their minds. Lance and Brusgror started bleeding from their ears and nose.
