The salty wind blew her hair across her face, making her eyes sting and breaking the moment. Felicity rubbed her eyes before realizing that there was a soft rain sprinkling upon them. The weather was unpredictable, as most tropical islands. Bipolar much? She glanced back to look at Leo, and he sat up after a couple of minutes.
"We should get the boat down we found earlier," he said. "We can lodge heavy objects on the left side of the boat and try to get it into that softer wave system."
Felicity looked over to the right side of the cliff, stunned by the height for a moment before nodding. The right side had softer waves and seemed less hazardous for a boat to float. She wiped her mouth. "Let's get to lower ground first. We're too way high up."
Leo agreed, and they made their way down a small trail. She had to run to keep up with his pace. The overgrown path expanded outward after a long walk, and Felicity slapped a bug that landed on her neck. She cringed when she saw remnants of the bug stuck to her palm.
"Felicity, hurry. Help me with the log over there."
Felicity jogged over to his side and helped him push the log forward. Using her shoulder, she used her body weight to lean on the log, as Leo steered it. The log rolled slowly, but it eventually made its way to the edge of the cliff.
Felicity pushed hard, gritting teeth from the exertion, and soon the log picked up speed from the downhill curve of the ledge they were on. The log fell off the cliff landing solidly on the left side of the boat with a loud crack.
The boat creaked to the right as some of the structure of the wall chipped off from the force of the log, and it wavered back and forth at the point of the wedge the boat was stuck in.
"Don't you think dropping another one would break the boat?" Felicity asked lightly.
"We'll just have to try not to," Leo answered.
Felicity shook her head, as she ran to find another log. The time flew by fast, and daylight was going to be upon them very soon. She didn't know how far they were from the main island that they first came on. They needed at least one hour before dawn hit.
Lots of logs were in her arms, as Felicity dumped them over the cliff. Leo was right behind with another load of stones. The crashing waves were meticulously trying to stop them from leaving by dragging water up dangerously close.
The water flung over at them, and Felicity ducked her head behind Leo while the water drenched his body. Felicity laughed because Leo didn't even bother to dodge. He shook his hair out and a small smile lifted the corner of his lips.
Sweat was pouring off her skin, and she wanted to pass out. They both walked back a forth, over and over again. Their skin was fully soaked at that point from the light rain with their clothing sticking onto their clammy bodies. Felicity found a large branch and dragged it over. Leo ran over after dropping some stones off the cliff to help.
"This will probably be the last one. The stones almost got the boat down," Leo said.
Felicity didn't answer, as she was starting to bottom out from overexertion. Leo pushed the branch off the cliff, and the loud snap of the branch, as it broke in half made Felicity look over the edge in alarm. She poked her head carefully off the cliff to try and spot the boat amidst the raging waters.
The boat was rocking, trying to stabilize, and finally tipped over, making the boat slide over to the right. It was bobbing, as the current tried to take it away. They had to do something quickly. The boat would be lost in a couple of minutes if not.
"Jump!" Leo shouted.
"What?" Felicity asked incredulously. "Off of this height?"
Leo pulled up his hood. "It shouldn't be more than 100ft."
"That's insane!"
"Come on! We need to leave."
"We could die from that height!"
"We could die either way from whatever abominations those were," Leo growled.
He bent down and tightened his shoelaces and secured the canvas bag around his waist. Leo tied the rune tightly to his sack and tucked it under his shirt, securing it tightly to his body. A moment later, he held out his hand and looked at her expectantly.
She shook her head adamantly but eventually and slowly placed her hand into his. He folded his fingers into between hers, and he tilted her head at her to get her consent. Felicity sighed before nodding, and they both turned back to get a running start. A few feet back, Leo started his countdown.
"Three, two… one."
Felicity lurched forward. "GO!"
Their feet hit the ground hard, as they gained speed against the wind. The ground was slick from the rain and the ocean water, and Felicity felt her foot start to slip. Leo carried their weight to the left and soon, there was nothing beneath them.
Felicity screamed, as her stomach bottomed out. She couldn't see, everything was a blur around her. Dark blues and greys swirled together, and Felicity felt her body start to shut down on her. Leo grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him, and she curved into his body. The wind felt like it was biting her, and she was grinding her teeth to keep from crying out.
Crashing into the water, Felicity and Leo broke apart from the force. The ocean water felt like shattered glass on her skin, and Felicity couldn't feel anything. Holding her breath, under the cool water she swam up.
Her limbs felt sluggish, as she fluttered her legs under the water. She ended up above water quicker than she thought and choked as she gulped in the air. She coughed from also ingesting the water and ended up gagging from the saltiness. She immediately scanned the area frantically. Where was Leo?
"Leo!" Felicity screamed. "Leo!"
His blond head broke from under, and she swam towards him. She couldn't move how she knew she could, and she was getting frustrated when she was still far. Felicity gritted her teeth and reached to grab his shoulder. Swinging her body in front of his, she placed her hands on his cheeks. They were flushed despite his skin being so pale.
"Are you okay?" Felicity asked.
He opened his eyes. "I think I broke my arm."
Felicity didn't know why she laughed. It wasn't a funny situation. But maybe the delusions finally broke her.
Leo paused and grimaced. "Why are you laughing?"
Felicity gulped in more water and coughed. "Ugh, Jesus. I think your insanity is brushing off on me."
