Chapter4

#Chapter4

/"I’m really good, Colt,/" I told him. I respected the man more than most. He was there for my mom and sisters after dad was gone and I had to go back to school. He made sure that they were okay, let them stay at their house, made sure everything got taken care of that my dad used to. I don’t think I could ever pay him back for everything he has done for us.

/"Ready for the new job?/"

/"Yeah. Thanks again for hooking me up with the internship that led to it./" He had so many connections from so many years playing and then coaching that he had made a few calls after I had applied for internships.

/"It was all you. Heard you worked really hard there. You deserve the job. All I did was made a few calls./"

/"I still appreciate it, none the less./"

/"Great. Listen, I just wanted to thank you for agreeing to look out for Maddy and Cleo on top of your sisters. I know Jarome is grateful too,/" he told me.

/"It’s not a problem. I am glad I can help you both out in some way. You have been there for my family and it’s the least I can do./" I tell him. I’m no pussy but I will always give thanks and credit where it is due. /"I know you will take care of mom and Hailey too./" I know that he will, but I felt the need to make sure still.

/"Of course. You all are family to us, Jett. If you need anything make sure you let me know./"

/"I will, thank you. Again… For everything./"

/"Always. Here is your mom./"

Before I could say anything more, Mom was back on the other end, /"Jett, I love you and be good, okay? We are all heading to have a late lunch./"

/"Okay. I will, Mom. I love you too./" She said another ‘I love you’ and hung up the phone.

There was a knock on my door and my best friend and roommate, Darren, popped his head through the door. /"Who do you love?/" He asked looking around the room. I knew what he was doing so, I laughed.

/"I’m alone, jackass./"

/"Right,/" he looked around again and then pushed to door all the way open and pushed his muscular frame into my room. I looked and motioned down to the fact that I was still in a towel.

/"We got the same stuff, dude./" I raised a brow and frowned. /"I’m kidding. Get dressed and come have a beer with me. I want to hear all about your love life./" I shook my head and threw a pillow at him, which hit the door as he left my room.

I dressed and joined him in the living room a few minutes later. He was sitting on the couch watching ESPN. It was really all we ever watched. He handed me a beer and smiled at me.

/"It was my mother, for God’s sake./" I told him, knowing that he would still be on the same subject. He made a face like he was disappointed. /"She wanted to update me on my sisters and the family friends that I offered to look out for too./"

He nodded and sipped his beer, /"You really have a shit ton of sisters, man./"

/"Only three,/" I told him.

/"Any of them hot?/" I glared at him, and he smiled his wide smile, showing off his teeth.

/"You stay away from my sisters,/" I pointed at him then remembered that Cleo and Maddy would be around too, /"the other two are off limits too./" He was worse than me when it came to women. I kept them around a little longer. Sometimes.

/"Are theses family friends,/" he put the last part in quotations, /"part of your harem?/" Darren loved to call the girls behind me my harem. Had I been with a lot? Sure, I was a damn quarterback with a famous father and always had the Raven’s players at my house. I used that to my advantage in high school and again in college. The dead dad things seemed to work too. I hadn’t used it, but it had been like cat nip to chicks without me even mentioning. Everyone knew who I was. Dad had paraded us around because he was so proud, and the world knew who we were.

/"Stop using that word,/" I told him, punching his arm.

/"Hey, man,/" he held his hands, /"I’m messing with you. I would never touch any of your sisters and I will try and stay away from the other two./" He smirked at me knowing he was still getting to me.

/"All the parents back home are counting on me,/" I told him with a sigh. I was feeling the weight already and they hadn’t even landed yet. /"I can’t let anything happen to them,/" I looked at him, /"especially,/" I raised my brows and looked at him, /"you./" He laughed and I joined him.

We spent the better part of the afternoon, drinking beers, watching ESPN, and talking about our jobs. Darren was a personal trainer at the gym his dad owned. He had a current total of ten married housewives that loved to ask him how their glutes look. He always told them /"fabulous./" They always smiled her told me. He liked making people smile. He had been my dorm mate in college and had been so excited when I told him I was moving to New York, where he was from, for my internship that he had made me smile wide which made him even more excited. He was a great best friend and roommate. I was glad the job had worked out and I hadn’t had to move home. I missed my family of course, but it was just different without my dad there.

We decided to order in pizza and Darren told me that I was going need to wake up early to hit the gym longer to burn off all the beer and carbs. He was determined that everyone around him stay in shape. Curse of growing up with a bodybuilding father who owned a gym. /"Hey, I can’t have a roommate that’s flabby,/" he told me when I glared at him, /"bad for business./" I shook my head and ate another slice. We had a great night. I didn’t even think much about how I should be at practice this week gearing up for the first game of the season. I went to bed excited for my first day as an agent. My newly discovered second dream job.
