#Chapter35

/"Little wolf, little wolf,/" a deep voice crooned, echoing through the trees. /"Let me in./"

It seemed to be everywhere at once, emanating from every direction. It flowed through the bare, gnarled branches of the high standing trees, their bark as black as the midnight hour they stood in. It scaled along the back of the icy chill that shrouded the air in thick, misty veils.

It filled my ears, taunting me. It had the pack going wild, ragging through the terrain, chasing their tails as they tore through the land in a game of chase.

I knew they wouldn't find anything.

I stood still, head bowed as my acute hearing strained, trying to pinpoint the source.

It was close. It was mocking.

It was how I knew the pack wouldn't find the owner. The display wasn't for them. It was for me.
