In the sky of the Kemrad Kingdom,
Hundreds of propelled transport planes were in the sky, with a few dozen jet engine aircraft from the Empire and Novoros. The 10th and 6th Air Assault Division, along with two battalions of air commandos, were deployed. For Novoros, they deployed their 10th and 6th Mountain Division, who were quickly trained with the paratroopers of the Empire and the Air Assault Division, since most of them were going to be deployed from airbases.
One of the Draconian Transport Planes:
"So the plan here is to surround the city. I want four battalions on it. We will surround and fortify our position around the city until reinforcements and other essential equipment are airdropped. We have five landing zones," the paratrooper commander said as he pointed to five locations.
Landing Zone A, B, C, D, E, and F, each one has an assigned city to attack. But the first phase is to bomb it into submission and for our troops to land and take the attack while soldiers move in from the corridor." He pointed to the border, where a small gap in the mountains was enough for tanks and vehicles to enter.
"So currently, Draconian bombers and multi-role fighter planes are bombing it, and for us to take the attack once we land and regroup," he finished. Soon, the pilot announced,
[ETA 10 minutes from Landing Zone A. Please prepare,] he said. Soon, the soldiers inside, only carrying essentials, readied themselves. This was the first large-scale airborne drop, and four divisions were involved.
10 minutes later
As the red lights turned green, the loading bay of the aircraft opened up, revealing the afternoon sky of the Kemrad Kingdom. As the loading master gave the thumbs up, the first ones jumped out, their parachutes opening up.
"Woah," one of them exclaimed as he looked down and saw the rough mountain landscape below. He held the chutes tightly as he looked around, seeing other planes beginning to drop the paratroopers and mountain soldiers alike.
[Remember the gathering zone, men. We need to regroup before we commit the offensive,] the superior officer spoke through the radio.
A few minutes later
After landing on the ground, he looked around and saw his buddy.
"Damn, you survived," he said to his buddy, who stood up and picked up his gear.
"Hell yeah. We already did this many times during training. Enough complaining, Dominic. Let's get going," he said to his paratrooper buddy named Dominic, who went to the landing zone. Along the way, they heard gunfire as nearby dwarven patrols tried to intercept them but were killed.
At the landing zone
Dominic and his buddy regrouped with their unit, where he saw soldiers bringing only the essential weapons—no vehicles or anything.
"Men, we're attacking this city a few clicks from our zone. Our objective is to surround and wait for reinforcements. Attempts to take the city are open, so I have to come up with a strategy once I see it," the commanding officer said as he and a few company commanders began discussing the current strategy.
"We have a few squads from the Engineer Corps, so we can dig a few foxholes and set up mortar positions here," one of the company commanders, named Sedrick Winter, said. Under him were Dominic and his buddy.
"Let's go with that. Have the men rest for a few hours before moving out," the officer said, and everyone nodded.
A few hours later
Everyone moved out. Along the way, they saw helicopters fly over them with a few close air support aircraft. They passed a few deserted villages, where everything was left behind. After two hours of marching, they saw the mountain city, which looked like a fortress. Dwarven soldiers clad in their heavy armor stood ready, and their catapults were also prepared to fire.
"All units, get into position. We're making a siege camp. We protect our front and rear!" the officer shouted as he pulled out binoculars and inspected the defenses. Within an hour, crude trenches were made, and tents were set up away from the range of the catapults.
"Set up patrol squads. I want to know if those dwarves have tunnels for quick escape routes and supplies to be brought in," he said, as currently, 4,000 soldiers were surrounding the entire mountain city. The first phase was about to end, and transport aircraft were being loaded with equipment and additional materials for airdrop.
Dimitri POV
"Your Excellency, the first phase is complete. All units reported that they are currently sieging the assigned cities and are waiting for the arrival of the equipment and additional personnel."
"How about the mechanized units? What's their progress?"
"They are currently dropping off soldiers to create a containment zone to prevent reinforcements into the region," one of the officers responded. Soon, the map was slowly changing as it showed their side and the enemy's side.
"Reports said that dwarves abandoned their villages, but it seems like they were in a rush, since most of their essential items were left in their houses," the intel officer reported.
"So, currently, all units are waiting for the equipment to arrive before launching their own offensives. How about the units that reached their regional capital? What's their status?"
"Currently, they are making preparations for the first assault once the artillery is airdropped," the intel officer replied. Currently, the plan was that the air commandos, a new unit called the Red Falcon Commandos, were known for going in with red sashes on their necks.
"How long until the second phase starts?" Dimitri asked, since they were on a timetable and the operation must be completed in two days.
"Three hours, Grand Marshal," the Air Force officer, who represented the Joint Air Force Command, spoke.
"I see. For now, monitor the situation. I want progress once the second phase begins," Dimitri said as he turned to leave the room, and everyone continued their routine.
Draconian Empire Western Border
Currently, this front had been very quiet ever since the war ended with Chronos. The same legions were still stationed, and Alex assigned Marshal Ben to command this defense line, while the eastern defense line was given to Marshal Fredrick. With Kalvin's help, they defended against continued attacks from the Gran Cathay Empire.
"Your Majesty, it's good to see you here," Marshal Ben Vincent bowed with respect as he saw Alex in his imperial attire, with a dozen Imperial Guards accompanying him, arriving on his private helicopter.
"It's good to see you, Ben. How's life been treating you?" Alex asked.
"Well, it's been good. I'm currently building a nice house in the eastern side of the Empire for my adopted daughter to stay in," Ben said with a small smile.
