In the years before princess Julianna was born, Queen Genevieve and King Philip struggle to conceive an heir. Pressured by the people, Philip took a mistress who soon became his second wife, but would never be named queen unless Genevieve renounced her title. Soon after their marriage Eleonor became pregnant with a daughter who unfortunately would not survive long after birth. Within the next year Eleonor became pregnant again, this time with a son who was deeply cherished by both his parents. Two years after Theodore’s birth, Genevieve had been blessed with a full term pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby girl she named Juliana. This would be the only child she would ever have since the King no longer wished to have Genevieve bare him anymore children. Philip then focused all his energy on Eleonor who would eventually have twin daughters, Bianca and Cinthia.
It was not a well kept secret that the King favored his son over his daughters and made it known to his wives that their daughter’s only use was to marry wealthy men dedicated to the crown.
