CHAPTER 61

  I sit down hard on my butt and rub my face with my hands, aware I am goose bumping all over from lack of clothes. Shivering slightly. Tiredness is moving in, and my head is weary.

  “You give me the address, and me and Elisa come check in on you after school’s out. So I can see for myself that you’re okay, and you're not slumming it somewhere awful.” It’s a dumb idea and one of pure impulse, but I don’t think I can sleep for the next two weeks, not knowing where he is or that he’s okay. I know he’ll dodge calls like he has for the past two days. That whole confession is hanging between us like a heavy black fog.

  “No… that’s not happening.” Dane’s stern tone is back in place. He shifts in his seat and clutches his ribs again. Cringing with the obvious hurt, it causes him.

  “Or I tell your dad… That’s your option.” I add in a sassy answer and get a glare and a snort of ‘she’s not serious.’ We lock eyes for a second, a stubborn war of fire and narrowed eyes before he relents.
