CHAPTER 81

Dane exhales loud enough that I can’t miss it, and after a pause where he seems to think, he finally speaks in a normal tone. I’m still staring into the hallway and avoiding turning to him.

“He’s avoiding her. If you want to know why then sure…. Meet me out in the garden later, alone by the swing set. Text me to come out. Just the two of us.” Dane sees it as an opportunity to get what he wants, and I curse myself internally for walking right into it. I don’t want a cozy heart-to-heart after last night, but I want to know what Tyler is playing at. I don’t want Elisa to hear it, so he has me over a barrel. To end her agony with some truths or to drag mine out because I know Dane will still want to bring up yesterday as soon as he gets me out of earshot of this house.
