CHAPTER 88

I slap his bicep with a newly freed arm, only aware we are still nose to nose when I raise my lashes to find him staring into my eyes from only two inches away.

There’s a pause, a moment of silence, as though time stands still. A buzz in the air between us kills all last traces of my emotional breakdown, and I forget to breathe. Dane is locked onto my gaze. His lips parted slightly because his breathing is as labored as mine, and he seems poised to say something. It’s a sizzle and tingle like something out of a romance book, and I forget everything else for a moment except his eyes on mine.

I’m aware of how wrapped my body is in his and how his arms around me have gotten noticeably tighter. We stand there staring, held fast and unable to speak, lips so close I can feel his breath on mine, and it tingles crazily.

“I’ll stop lying to you. Just promise me you’ll stay away from Jordan and those assholes, Kales. None of them are worthy of you.”
