Mother’s Intuition

Out in the dining area, Lyra and I sat next to each other while my mother sat across from us.

"Been a while since I made dinner for 3 people, hope it isn't too much." My mother's tone sounded a little concerned as she looked at everything on the table. Our plates were filled with some steak and potatoes, along with some vegetables.

It was quite a lot and I don't remember having this last time for dinner, but I guess it would change thanks to Lyra being here.

"It's alright, we haven't eaten anything since we left the academy." Lyra's mouth was watering, eagerly waiting to dig in.

"You know you can eat Lyra, there is no need to wait when you are here." I assumed there was some kind of noble etiquette where they had to wait for the father to take the first bite or something.

Although maybe I should of made her wait, since as soon as I gave her the go ahead she began to devour the food.

"Fufu~ looks like someone likes my cooking." My mother chuckled before she started eating herself.

I shook my head out of shame since this is supposed to be my… girlfriend.

'Arghhhhhh, Lyra is my girlfriend now.' I still hadn't quite processed that Lyra and I are dating now, so saying it to myself caused my heart to race. Regardless, I began to eat my food as well, trying not to think too much otherwise, my face would turn red.

<10 minutes>

The sound of cutlery echoed throughout the room as we finished our meals. Lyra had finished way earlier, but luckily my mother did cook too much, allowing Lyra to go for seconds.

"I'm stuffed, thanks Kurumi." Lyra leant back in her chair, completely satisfied with her meal.

'With the way she is acting, I doubt anyone would consider her a noble.' It was a good thing that Lyra was being relaxed, as I'm sure it was seen as genuine by my mother. If her threatening undertone from before was to tell me anything, it was clear she has some disdain for nobles, or at least is weary of them.

'She must be just looking out for me.' The name Kirai appeared in my head and my wild guess is that this is my father, who didn't end on such good terms with my mother.

'Once I get a break from the academy, I should try to learn more. The headmaster seems to be aware so if I'm desperate, I could try to meet him again.' I wanted to learn more about myself as well as actually get through a year of school, so if the worst case happens again, I can reset. That will allow me to focus on avoiding anything that may kill me.

"So, you two, how did meeting each other go? I want to know all the details." Suddenly, my mother leant onto the table like an interrogator and stared at us both intently.

Lyra and I both straightened in our seats as the air in the room became tense. We looked at each other for a moment with the same question in mind.

Do we tell her about us? It was a tough question, as we have only known each other for one day and I'm not so sure about my mother accepting a relationship that has happened so quickly.

"Oh, we were seated next to each other during the welcome ceremony and we kind of hit it off from there." Lyra started off with how we met and although it was a little different as I was crying on the grass when we first met, but my mother doesn't need to know that.

"Yeah, I complimented her accessories since I found them cool and from there we got talking." This might be overexplainning, but from the look on my mother's face, she wanted every single detail.

"I see, so I assume you spent the entire day together?" Leading on to the next question, it was a little scary not knowing what my mother was trying to find out. I'd hope she would have stopped it at that previous question, but nope, she is still going.

"Pretty much. I don't have any friends, so we stuck together." Lyra let out a chuckle, trying to lighten the tension, but my mother still held a stern gaze.

"Fair enough, care to explain where you went after school?" It was a fair question, but my alarm bells were ringing that this will be key to what my mother was trying to find out.

"W-we went to a cafe to hang out for a bit and get to know each other better, which then lead to us coming here." I answered this time to make it seem like it was my idea and less like Lyra was hitting on me.

"I think I understand what is going on." My mother shut her eyes and fell silent, leaving Lyra and me holding out breaths.

'Why are we so afraid? There is no way my mother knows already?' It was odd that me and Lyra were feeling so much pressure, but with everything that just happened, it was hard to not feel this way. It also didn't help that my mother was acting so serious, like she was a cop trying to get answers.

"Understand what?" Lyra couldn't help herself and asked for a bit more clarification.

"How did you seduce my daughter so easily?"

"...." The world turned silent for a moment as Lyra and I sat there stunned locked by my mother's question. How did she know? I mean we were pretty close when she barged in, but no way she assumed that right away? Isn't hanging out what friends usually do?

My mind was spiralling, trying to figure out how the hell my mother could of deduced such a thing.

"Wait, I was kidding. Don't tell me I was right." The act my mother had put on suddenly crumbled and she wasn't being serious at all.

"W-what no, I didn't seduce your daughter. We've only known each other for a day." Lyra was stuttering on her words with a completely red face, not helping her case at all. Granted, I was no better, I was too petrified to speak, thinking that my relationship with Lyra was already ending.

"Well, that's a shame, I'd hope you were trying at least. Saki never brings anyone home so I'd assume you found a way into her heart." In a shocking turn of events, my mother was disappointed I wasn't seduced?!

"You wanted me to seduce her?" Hearing such a conflicting line after such a serious act broke Lyra's brain, that she forgot she was embarrassed.

"Sure, why not? My daughter is beautiful with great proportions. Who wouldn't want her? I was no better when I was younger, I dated a guy I met five minutes into meeting him."

'MY MOTHER IS A TOTAL PUSHOVER LIKE ME!!!!' I felt like passing out, as this was the exact opposite of what I was expecting.

"I-I w-well, about that." Lyra was just as shocked as I was, even struggling to formulate a sentence.

"Something to tell me?"

Lyra shot me a quick glance, as it might be okay to tell her that we are together. It was still a risky move, but with how things are going, its probably best to just tell her.

I gave Lyra a slight nod, as there is no way I will be able to confess to my own mother that we are dating. I was still at a loss for words about what my mother said 10 seconds ago.

"M-me and your daughter may have started dating j-just before dinner." Lyra shut her eyes, embarrassed that she was admitting it, but what was even worse was that my mother stayed silent.

"So I was right?" My mother was in disbelief and looked to me to get any kind of confirmation.

I wanted to run away and hide in my room to avoid answering, but I was already to deep, so I reluctantly nodded.

"Oh my god, this is the best news of my life." Seeing my nod, my mother stood up while constantly looking back and forth between us, trying to register in her head that we were dating.

"Wait a minute, did I accidentally interrupt you two about to hav-"

"NO!" Both me and Lyra shouted, as we instantly knew my mother was assuming that we were about to have sex.

"Ahem, that is presumptuous of me." My mother coughed into her hand, realising how outlandish it was to assume that.

"Anyway, I should apologise for how I was acting before Saki. I only wanted to tease you and act like a strict mother since this is the first time you brought a friend over… Well, girlfriend, I should say."

"Argh! Don't say it out loud!" It was even more embarrassing for me that my mother was calling Lyra my girlfriend, as I haven't even gotten it through my head that she is yet.

"Fufu~ someone is shy, but don't worry, I'll stop the teasing tonight."

"T-thanks." Another unbelievable moment today, my mother actually being okay with this relationship.

"As for you Lyra, treat Saki well. Otherwise I'll hunt you down." A sinister smile appeared on my mother's face as she casually threatened Lyra.

"Yes Ma'am!" As if Lyra had joined the military, she saluted and answered confidently.

"Good~, now I suppose I'll leave you two alone to enjoy some… time together. We can talk more about it tomorrow when your faces are not about to explode." My mother contemplated for a second before deciding what to say, but she was so going to say something lewd.

"Much appreciated." With that said, my mother got up from the table and began clean-up. I don't know if I will be ready tomorrow for such a talk, but at least it gives me time to hopefully be calm enough to form a full sentence.

"Let's head back to your room, Saki."
