Being dragged through the air by Lyra, we ended up at some sort of bank. I was completely disoriented, as I was still not used to flying and Lyra was going a lot faster than usual.
"Please don't do that again." I leant up against the wall while holding my head and praying the headache I got disappeared.
"S-sorry, I got a little excited." Lyra patted my back and I saw on her face that she felt really bad. I could imagine if she had some animal ears, they would be drooping down.
"It's fine, at least I didn't die." After taking a few deep breaths, my head returned to normal and I was ready for whatever Lyra had planned.
I quickly took a look around at the surroundings, as this was a new area of the city I hadn't been to yet and it screamed rich. Every person and animal had an air of sophistication, making me feel very out of place. Even the buildings looked so fancy, with gold plastered all over them as well as materials that looked too good for me to ever see in my own home.
I knew Lyra was rich, but this felt like a billionaire's level of wealth to be in a place like this.
"Alright, let's head inside and open an account for you… But before we do, is it okay if I ask to make it a joint account?" Lyra looked a little embarrassed asking the question and I raised an eyebrow since why is this the thing to make her embarrassed?
"Uhh, sure?" I didn't see any issue with it and if anything, it was the better choice since this wasn't my money we were transferring.
Upon my agreement, Lyra's face lit up with excitement, which once again, I was a little confused as to why, it was just a bank account.
*
"So by agreeing to have a joint account, you two will be in a relationship for the foreseeable future and you must stay in one for a minimum…" The lady looked down at a sheet to check something. "Of 25 years together before you close down the account; otherwise, all assets in the account will be seized and taken by us."
In a small office, Lyra and I chatted with the bank staff about opening an account and just before we finished, the shark lady hit us with the final conditions. I was completely dumbfounded at the time range, but it began to make sense why Lyra was so excited.
It was basically an indirect marriage opening up a joint account as it forced you to be together. Not that I am complaining, but I felt like I walked right into Lyra's trap. The consequences of breaking it were also very severe and I wonder if Lyra knew about them beforehand, which, if she did, would be a little concerning.
'Maybe I should be more viligant next time when agreeing to something, although its kind of exciting what Lyra might have in store for me.' The right thing to do was to be more cautious, but my degenerate mind liked it and hoped Lyra had some other plans.
'Good thing I expected to be with her forever, but it's almost embarrassing to think that Lyra feels just as strongly. She wasn't wrong that she falls hard in my past life.' I knew she had an extreme honeymoon phase, but she may as well be planning for kids and the wedding right now.
"Yes, I agree." Lyra didn't hesitate to agree to the terms and I looked at her to see if she was genuinely serious. She returned a smile and nodded as if she knew the exact question I was asking.
"I agree as well." I took a deep breath and agreed to the terms.
"Wonderful. For clarification the 25 years is the time limit since you are both long-life species, so we scaled it up in accordance." The shark lady elaborated on the time, which made sense since I am a kitsune so I expected my life expectancy to be a bit longer. As for Lyra, I would have thought it'd be shorter, but I'm guessing since she is human, the owl part of her makes her live longer. I didn't know the science behind it, and I wasn't going to bother to find out.
"Thank you, am I able to transfer some funds to it now?" Lyra didn't waste any time and got straight to the point.
"You will have to give me a second as I process this paperwork, but once I am finished, it will be open right away." The shark lady stamped the pieces of paper that had our names on it and placed them on a stone tablet.
Some magic runes were at work and suddenly the paper disappeared into thin air.
'I really need to find out if this world has its own form of internet still, but with magic.' There were hints of this in the arcade, but nothing stuck out to me like a mobile phone substitute or a computer.
We were in a pretty luxurious bank, though and I didn't see anything that represented a computer, so I leant towards that this world just hasn't figured it out yet. It was a shame that I couldn't reignite my gaming addiction, but maybe that's a good thing.
"Okay, now it should be instated." After a few seconds, the tablet lit up again and two thin golden cards appeared.
"Does it work like normal transfers?" Lyra pulled out her old card that had all her money in it, and the lady raised an eyebrow at seeing it. Looking at Lyra's card, it was some kind of family crest, which I assumed was Lyra's as it had owl feathers on it.
"Yes, may I see proof you are from the Owlvil family?" The lady seemed suspicious and rightfully so, as there have probably been cases of stolen noble cards.
"Here you go." Lyra then pulled over her fingerless glove and a marking glowed on the back of her hand.
"I see, we have no issues then. To answer your question, yes, it does and you shall do it here." All of the lady's suspicions disappeared and she pulled out a tablet that had two slots that fit the shape of the cards.
"Great!" Lyra smiled happily and placed her card in one of the slots, and the lady placed the golden card in the other. As for the other card, she handed it to me, which I gratefully accepted and put into my pocket. At this point, I was just here for the ride and stayed silent so I didn't screw anything up.
A magic panel appeared and Lyra did her thing until the lady asked if she was sure about going through with the transfer.
With a nod, the tablets lit up for a moment and the money seemingly got transferred, I guess? This was magic way out of my understanding and I could only assume it had to do with runes.
"Is that all, Miss Owlvil?"
"That is all. Thank you for your help." Everything was coming to an end already and we were about to leave. If I'm honest, I wasn't really paying much attention the whole time, as my head was still stuck on the whole 25 years of being together.
*
We left the bank without any drama and it was time to head to Lyra's old home so she could pick up a few things.
"So how much did you transfer over?" I was curious about how much Lyra actually had since she never actually told me.
"Oh, you can check the amount on your card. All you have to do is put your finger on the rune and it will project a panel with all the information." Lyra held out her card, pointing out the rune she mentioned and with a little bit of magic, a panel appeared.
However, I was not prepared for the number I was about to see.
*Cough, cough* "I-I… W-what?" I almost choked on my saliva as I counted the zeros, just to be sure I was reading it right.
"1, 2 ,3, 4, 5, 6 ,7 ,8… 8 zeros!!!!" I wanted to pass out right then and there, as it was an amount of money I never thought I'd see in my life.
"Shhhh! Don't go screaming about the amount. This is nothing compared to how much my family owns, but I kind of forgot you are not a noble." Lyra quickly hid her card and covered my mouth.
"T-this is too much, won't your family notice?" I spoke through her hand, now concerned, as there was no way they would let her transfer that much money at once.
"Maybe, but that's besides the point. Let's grab my stuff before they do." Lyra spread her wings and I knew exactly what was about to come next.
"Slower this time, please!" I wanted to talk more about the bank situation, but the deed was already done, so there wasn't much I could argue with.
Lyra then effortlessly picked me up and soared into the skies towards her old home.
