Chapter 6 Summoning of Mr. Liu_1

When the dizzy Liu Zhenhan came back to his senses, he was startled to find that the sky-blue Wind System Magic Wolf, that had held the upper hand just now, now only had its upper half on the ground, with the other half pinned by the forelimbs of the Giant Tortoise, forcefully smashed into the ground. The ground bore a pit from the impact, and soil resembling fog was billowing out of it.

The Magic Wolf's upper half was embedded upright into the soil like a weeble-wobble toy, its head displaying an incredible look of agony. The eyes, once flashing arrogantly, were filled with disbelief. A piece of the Giant Tortoise's black skin remained on the Wolf's mouth, which was left agape powerless.

"Such immense strength!" Liu Zhenhan felt utterly terrified! He wouldn't have believed it, had he not seen it himself!

Meanwhile, Liu Zhenhan felt slightly relieved, glad that he hadn't acted rashly. If he did and got hit by such a beast, he'd be doomed.

Liu Zhenhan managed to stand up, holding his bow and arrow. The Magic Wolf had not yet died completely, and the blood pouring from its half body had formed a small pool on the ground. His half-open eyes locked onto Liu Zhenhan.

Seeing Liu Zhenhan suddenly appear from the bushes, with his body not only bearing rose branches but also the thick familiar scent of wolf dung, a look of sudden realization crossed the Magic Wolf's eyes.

"So Magical Beasts do have wisdom!" Liu Zhenhan exclaimed in awe, feeling a newfound respect, "I didn't believe it before, but now I do."

The magic wolf's eyes then intensely fixed upon the arrow in his hand. The familiar wolf-tooth arrowhead revitalized the dying beast's eyes.

"Awoo..." The Magic Wolf managed to howl once more, blood spurting from its mouth. The voice was bleak and miserable, like wind cutting across a blade, punctuated with a whistling noise.

An arrow shot through its wide-open mouth into its throat, silencing it.

The Magic Wolf collapsed in front of the Giant Tortoise's head. Its waist slumped backward, neatly severed. Liu Zhenhan noticed the Giant Tortoise's thick claw still dotted with the Magic Wolf's blood.

Liu Zhenhan subconsciously wiped his face, looking at his open palm.

Before killing the Magic Wolf, Liu Zhenhan was wholly focused on how to kill it. But now that it was dead, he felt some inexplicable melancholy.

He couldn't help but tip his head into the pit in front of the Giant Tortoise, careful not to get too close. He remained on guard.

"Goodness!" Liu Zhenhan's eyes held appreciation, "Such great strength! No wonder it's known for carrying stone tablets!"

The Giant Tortoise was completely drained, trying in vain to lift its head but unable to do so. Its eye, which was just torn by the Magic Wolf, hung half-covered, bleeding drop by drop.

"Difficult delivery, huh?" Liu Zhenhan moved to the back of the Giant Tortoise, staring at the gleaming egg in awe. The Giant Tortoise tried to move its body, but it was immobilized.

A line of strange text on the shell of the Giant Tortoise, above its tail, caught Liu Zhenhan's attention. He never thought that something could be carved into the hard shell that even the Magic Wolf's wind blades couldn't cut through.

The characters were large and deeply engraved.

"*Nine* one, *three* seven, two four**, six eight**?"

Liu Zhenhan struggled to recognize the ancient seal script. He copied ancient seal rubbings for a period with his brother and somehow managed to guess this text.

"What kind of bird thing is written?" Liu Zhenhan rolled his eyes. He realized that this was indeed the ancient script he had traced.

"What?" Liu Zhenhan suddenly froze! "Why is this script in ancient seal script?"

The slow-witted Liu Zhenhan suddenly remembered that he was in a bizarre world. A world with evolved humans from monkeys and other humanoids evolved from beasts!

Where did these characters come from? Who carved them?

It is impossible to express Liu Zhenhan's complicated inner feelings with words and language!

He only had one question in mind: who could it possibly be that etched these characters onto the turtle's shell? Had they come from the same place as him?

Was there any way to go back home?

But a turtle couldn't speak! What was he supposed to do? Liu Zhenhan's face turned ashen, and he sprawled onto the ground, barely noticing the deep sting of thorns piercing into his flesh.

After scratching his head for a while, a spark of inspiration struck Liu Zhenhan.

He finally remembered that he could use Spirit Communication to tame magical beasts. And since the tamed Magical Beast and the priest were capable of heartfelt induction, then he might as well give it a shot, it might help him figure things out.

Liu Zhenhan strove to control his surging emotions, managing to sing a shaky but powerful Spirit Communication song.

A faint golden light began to form under the loud war song, enveloping the Giant Tortoise laying on the ground. To his surprise, a flicker of understanding flashed across the dying tortoise's solitary eye.

Liu Zhenhan was overcome with a strange sensation, and it felt as though his body had become separated from his soul. Countless chaotic memories surged through his mind, reminiscent of scenes from a movie — gunpowder, the echo of gunfire, his handsome brother, his mother, his sister — all of the memories rushing by, and then suddenly disappearing as if they were soaked up like water by a sponge. He felt a chill in the middle of his forehead after this release.

"I did it!" Liu Zhenhan exclaimed in joy. He had heard from Helen that this was the feeling of Spirit Communication with a tamed Magical Beast.

"You're... too late... we come from... the same world... why… I didn't think... In my life... traveling across continents... Yet I... am lost..."

Streaks of muddled thoughts like furious gusts of wind pummelled Liu Zhenhan's mind, making his head swim. He even seemed to hear a faint, chilling sound of fracturing inside his cranial vault. Overwhelmed, Liu Zhenhan fell onto the ground, clutching his ears.

"Tyrant! Tyrant!" The Giant Tortoise opened its mouth wide, revealing a set of human-like teeth, let out a raspy cry as if it was taking its last breath. The sound was similar to that of an old bull huffing and puffing.

"This tortoise has gone crazy!" Liu Zhenhan muttered under his breath, rubbing his aching head. He tried making sense of the Spirit Communication he had experienced, but he could not discern anything meaningful.

The Giant Tortoise's massive head tilted to one side, its eyelids drooping. The skin on its turtle claws began to sag.

"Hey, is it dead?" A sudden surge of uncontainable sorrow swelled up in Liu Zhenhan's heart, and to his surprise, he began to sob.

"What's going on?" Liu Zhenhan was puzzled as his vision started to blur from the tears.

"You've got to be kidding me?" Liu Zhenhan wiped the cascading tears away, "I really have to cry just because my Magical Beast croaked?"

"This is too much!" Liu Zhenhan couldn't stop the stream of tears, and they began to fall like big heavy raindrops onto the ground.

"My...uh...Magical Beast...uh... " Liu Zhenhan threw himself on the lifeless turtle and cried bitterly, "I had so many questions left...uh....how could you...uh...just leave like this...."

"Well, the shell is a nice takeaway." Liu Zhenhan sniffled, his heart aching, yet he started considering the remaining value of the giant tortoise.
