He had barely said a civilized thing to Kelly and now he was thanking Solomon, who was only here because of his strange obsession with humans, no matter what he said.
Yes, Hilda had thanked him, but it was different coming from Gaius.
Isla appeared just as surprised by his announcement.
"It was my pleasure, Your Grace," Solomon grinned, completely oblivious to the sudden tension in the room.
"You raised a lovely woman."
Then Gaius smiled.
He actually smiled at Solomon.
Kelly was quietly fuming.
He didn't need Gaius's approval, he knew that, but he realized that he wanted it because it would mean something to Isla.
"I did, didn't I?" he turned his smile over to Isla, who was openly frowning at him.
He cocked his head to the side .
"Something wrong, love?"
"I just think I'm done eating. You won't mind keeping Solomon company, right?"
