Morgan hesitated for a moment before speaking, as if struggling to find the right words. "I don't know how to say this," he began, his voice trailing off.
Melody's heart sank. Whatever he was about to say, it clearly wasn't good news. She braced herself for the worst, her mind racing with all sorts of possibilities.
Finally, Morgan spoke again, his voice low and hesitant. "It's about Sarah."
"Sarah? What's the matter?"
He stared at her intently. "I've been thinking a lot about our relationship lately, and I'm not sure if it's what I want anymore."
Her eyes widened in disbelief as his words sank in. Her heart was racing, and she could feel the blood drain from her face. She struggled to catch her breath as a knot formed in her stomach, and her mind was racing a million miles a minute.
She had never expected this kind of bombshell from him, and the shock was overwhelming. Her thoughts were jumbled, and she couldn't make sense of anything.
