The Summer Break

Since the university was on summer break, some students found it unnecessary to stay back, so this set of people was the first to leave the dormitories. Another set of students wanted to enjoy any interesting activity post exams, so they stayed back for a while, The room head Nelly, the antisocial one, Audrey, and the room belle, Hyacinth fell under this category. Some students stayed back for diverse reasons, Pat fell under this category because she had her reason for staying back.

As expected, some senior students who hadn't left the dormitories to observe the summer break organized a bonfire for those who remained on campus. Pat who seemed to know every gist on the campus came back to their room to inform her roommates, "you wouldn't believe what I just heard…" Pat said as she slammed the door shut as if ready to reveal the biggest secret.

Hyacinth faced the opposite direction to confirm the seriousness of her voice as she saw from the mirror, that while she was drying her hair, Audrey closed the book she was reading and Nelly raised her head from her phone, all three of them ready for the news.

After five minutes of silence, Audrey said," spill already, I've had my heart in my mouth for a few minutes now!", "yeah, I felt the same, she does know how to leave us on a cliffhanger," Nelly said, all the while Hyacinth gripping the hair dryer with already white knuckles, finally, she said, " come on, what was so important"

"Alright, alright, you know I did tell all of you someone was going to organize post-exam events, well... Guess what?", Pat said aggravating the girls more, " WHAT?" Hyacinth spat out infuriated, "There's a bonfire in three days!!" Pat said squealing in excitement, the girls soon joined her squeals because they were not going to be bored out.

Three days passed by in a flash and the girls were more than ready to go to the party, Audrey included. They dressed beautifully as usual and it was no surprise that most girls in their dormitory did as well, it seemed the night was going to be fun. The venue where the event was to take place was an open field that could contain so many students.

There were students from all departments and the number of students was outrageous, some making out like no one's business, some of the students were soon high on alcohol, except a few handfuls who chose to remain sane, the girls included. Regardless the bonfire was lively, and games were played, but it was a fun night to remember because some of the students would soon leave to observe the summer breaks.

Among the four girls, Nelly was the first to leave the dormitory, she claimed she missed her family as she didn't live nearby and couldn't visit them. Her family came to pick her and of course, Pat flirted with her older brother as they accompanied her outside the gates to have lunch one last time before the summer break.

The girls couldn't believe that they had formed an attachment to each other, at least not to that extent, they cried as she left the dormitory, the girls returned consoling themselves with the thought that they would all come back to each other the following term.

Hyacinth had already started to pack her things to prepare for her departure the following week. Days soon passed and it was just two days to her departure, feeling bored as she was the only one in the room as Pat and Audrey had gone to get a few things, and she came down to get fast food when she bumped into David.

Originally, David had come to visit Hyacinth, he saw this as his opportunity to ask her out on a date as there would be no possible excuses. Coincidentally, he visited the restaurant after seeing her, he felt extremely lucky for seeing her after he thought he wouldn't. "Can I join you?", A familiar voice suddenly asked Hyacinth as she was having launch, she paused eating and looked up to see it was the guy from their night out.

She sighed internally and put on a stoic look, " what do you want?", she asked boring holes into his forehead just looking at him, he simply avoided her question and sat across her, "well, I'm here to have lunch"," well, the counter is that way, that's where to order your food", she said already frustrated. Hyacinth was furious seeing he didn't leave her alone, "I want your phone number", he said out of the blue catching her off guard.

She was blushing red but still stood up and headed for the door after dropping a few bills on the table. "Hey, wait up!!", David said as he ran to catch up with her, " is it so bad to have your number?","Fine, if I give you, promise not to stalk me?" She said, by now they were already standing outside the girls' dormitory, "Deal!", he said as he extended his phone to her.

She punched in her numbers and ran off, he smirked and dialed the number, he was answered with a robotic voice, 'dear customer, the number you dialed does not exist, he was shell shocked, she dared to give him a wrong number. He left the hostel in frustration since he could not storm into the girl's dormitory.

Unfortunately for David, Hyacinth was ready to go back home two days later. Of course, the girls cried again, sad that they would have to depart temporarily. Now, Patricia and Audrey were the only girls left in the dorm room
