Moving On

Audrey knew she couldn't control her mother's health, nor could she control their financial capabilities. The one thing she knew she was in control of was taking the jobs.

After she had left the hospital the night before, she had thought of the different possibilities of her mother's condition, 'was she going to live longer than what I expected, did we need to travel of some sort, will the treatments be expensive?', the most prominent one, however, was the one she was scared to say, she didn't want to jinx it, but it lingered in her head,' was mom going to die?".

Audrey was scared herself, scared of her mother's condition, scared that she might like the only person who was her blood relative. Either way, she knew that she had to be tough so that her mother would be able to rely on her. If her mother had been her support system all these years, she wanted to do the same for her mother now that it mattered the most.

Getting home, Audrey sighed out of extreme tiredness, she didn't realize it sooner, but throughout the day, all she had done was stress herself. She immediately called her mother, to ask about her well-being and to tell her that she had arrived safely home.

"Hi mom", Audrey said after she heard that her mother had received the call, " hey honey", Georgia replied, it was obvious even over the phone that her mood had brightened up.

"I'm home already mom"," ohh okay baby, make sure to rest early, you know you have to work tomorrow", "okay mom, I'll do just that". Then, Audrey conversed with her mother on the phone till they were both tired, just before Audrey could cut the call Georgia said, "Audrey"," yes mom?", "do you think you could visit me tomorrow before going to work"?

"Of course mom, you don't even have to ask, I'll visit you anyways", " okay dear, I'm going to sleep now, lock the doors, and make sure to check everything before going to sleep, also make sure you sleep early so you can wake up early"Georgia continued.

Audrey chuckled hearing her mother talking over the phone, she wished her mother was not in that position, where she had to be in the hospital, even though it pained her, it had to be done either way.

"Okay mom, goodnight, I love you mom", Audrey said through the phone despite the situation.

As her mother had suggested, Audrey went to sleep after taking a hot shower which made her feel a lot better.

When Audrey woke up to the bright rays of the sun the next morning, she smiled contentedly, her mother's suggestion which she adhered to had helped her see that she woke up early.

She shot up from bed suddenly recalling that she had work to do, she sighed loudly just thinking about how much time and energy she was going to put into it all.

Without wasting time, he arranged her room and the house in general, she didn't take a long time though, the house was clean.

She stopped by at the hospital to visit her mother, bringing along freshly made meals, which were her mother's favorites, the plantain, and the potatoes porridge.

They bid each other fare well, with Audrey promising her mother that she'd visit her when she could. Audrey decided to make a quick stop at the doctor's office, she recalled the last time she had been there, she was not in the right state of mind.

Me. Jeremy gave Audrey a very brief version of her mother's condition, he told her that the chemotherapy wasn't a cure, it was just a way to prolong her mother's life by stalling the growth of the tumor.

Audrey handled the news better this time because she had convinced herself that her mother was going to live longer after all. When the doctor concluded his explanations and Audrey left his office, she wished she noticed sooner, those coughs were not normal now that she thought about them.

She decided not to beat herself about it, she was only going to have a lighter mood, so that her mother would be convinced that she was doing better. Audrey knew it was going to be tough work, but she was going to do it, it was time to pay back the kindness she had showered her with

With that goal in mind, she set out of the hospital to the supermarket where she had got the job. Since the time was flexible, the manager explained to her that she only needed to work the morning shift.

" hi there, you must be the new employee", Audrey suddenly heard as she left the manager's office, she turned to look at the person that spoke. He was a tall handsome man, from what Audrey saw, he seemed to be more than six feet, long hair, muscular and he was looking smart in his tennis shoes and khakis. "hi, I'm Leo, you must be Audrey", 'wow', Audrey said to herself, 'he sure was handsome.

" yes, I'm Audrey and I'm the new employee", Audrey said with a smile, "alright then, here you go", he said giving Audrey a t-shirt just like the one he was wearing. Seeing the questioning gaze the girl named Audrey directed at him, he cleared his throat and continued," I'm the head of staff around here, we mostly switch roles, so you need to be well versed in all the fields".

They continued their conversation, while he gave her a little tour of the supermarket. It was quite big as they turned a lot, him showing her the stands and everything she needed to know.

He had expected another trainee who was assigned to him by the manager, but who he saw was a very very beautiful woman, he appreciated he beauty and all he wanted was to spend time with her.

He was very happy though that she was assigned to him and hoped he could get to know her better.
