001: Flipped on its Head I

*RING* *RING* *RING*

LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!!!

CLASS IS FINALLY OVER!

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE WEEKEND ALL WEEK!

I CAN'T WAIT!

"Yo, Yuhven, it's time to head home."

My older brother, Zephyros, said to me.

"Hold on, I have something I have to do first."

I replied.

Zephyros is great.

He's a star, a diamond in the rough.

He has placed first in the country in a large variety of sports.

All the girls swoon over him.

It hurts me to admit it, but he is better than me in every way.

Actually, that may be incorrect.

He isn't the smartest man alive, that's for damn sure, but he is definitely one of the most popular men alive.

He's only a year older than me, but he's accomplished so much already.

He has short brown hair and rare yellow eyes.

Whenever he makes eye contact with a girl they simply melt away.

"Fine, just don't take too long,"

He continued.

"I'll be waiting for you out front."

As he walked away, a viscous chill sprang down my spine.

Although this was not rare, it only originated from one source.

My younger sister.

She appeared behind me almost as if she teleported there.

Her cold stare always makes my soul shiver.

She's a monster.

Her gaze is so intense that it could turn me to stone.

Appropriately, her name is Medusa.

Unlike my brother, she has no athletic talents whatsoever.

On the other hand, she is the smartest high school student in the country, however she has always had issues when it comes to making friends.

Differing from my brother, she is probably the least popular person I know.

She walked away without so much as a word.

How hard do you think it is for me?

No matter what field I venture into, I am always not enough.

I can never be as muscular or quick as my brother, and I can never be as smart as my sister.

I am the middle child and I am the middle of both worlds.

I'm simply average in every form of the word, so I don't quite understand what draws her to me.

"Hey, Yuhven, what are you doing this afternoon?"

Anita said.

Anita Aakster is the popular girl in my class, everyone loves her.

Every single boy in this school seeks her attention, and they're all jealous that all of her attention is focused on one person, me.

Many of the boys hate me for it.

I mean she's pretty, sure, but I have no interest in her, yet no matter how many times I push her away, she seeks me out again and again.

Her blue eyes combined with her long blonde hair really display a rare rendition of beauty.

And her body…

Yeah.

Definitely yes.

"I-"

My words didn't make it out of my mouth before I was interrupted.

"Sorry, Anita, but he's with me."

Anton Tsukada interrupted.

Anton is my best friend.

Just like me, he is an average guy, although he is quite the nerd.

His black bowl cut and glasses complement that thought perfectly.

But there is one thing that sets the two of us apart…

"Aw, but I wanted to spend some time with him."

Anita told him.

The one thing that makes him a woman's worst nightmare.

"Well, you can spend some time with me if you want."

Anton replied while making a derogatory and inappropriate hand movement.

Yup.

You guessed it.

He's a…

"PERVERT!"

Anita screamed as she ran away.

"AW MAN! That was a great opportunity."

He commented in regards to the situation.

"Yeah, sure it was."

He and I walked together out to the school yard.

"Alright, is everyone here?"

Anton said to the two people already waiting there.

Just like me they were average students.

Luke Johnson and Oscar Dunn sat on the grass.

Anton and I sat around them.

"No, he's obviously not here yet."

Luke said.

"Why do we even wait for him, it's an absolute pain in the ass."

Oscar built upon the point.

"Come on guys, it's just his personality."

I remarked.

"Nah, it's more like a flaw."

Anton replied.

"Oh come on, not you too."

"I'm sorry man, maybe he should just show up on time."

*PANT* *PANT*

"I'm here, I made it."

Okori Holm said.

This is yet another one of my friends, however unlike my friends and I, he is anything but average.

He is the best Sophomore athlete in the school, although he doesn't hold a candle to my brother.

He isn't very smart, but he makes up for it with his great personality.

Okori always wants to be the hero, that's why he is always late.

He may always be late, but he dramatically shows up at the perfect time.

Along with Anton, this dumb yet athletic pile of flesh dramatically makes his entrance onto my list of best friends.

"Alright, now that everyone is present, let's get down to business."

Anton relayed his thoughts with a grave seriousness that could strike fear into the hearts of men.

Ah yes…

Business.

Everyone stayed silent.

No one dared to move a muscle.

The suspense was killing us, but what was so suspenseful?

"Alright, so what time are we going to the amusement park tomorrow?"

Anton asked.

THAT'S RIGHT!

WE'RE GOING TO THE AMUSEMENT PARK!

I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO ONE, BUT I NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO!

My siblings and parents were always too busy to go, but now it's finally my chance.

"So I just want to make sure that everyone is going."

Okori said.

We all nodded in unison, and he proceeded with that knowledge in mind.

"So next I think that we should-…"

"YUHVEN!"

My name cuts through Okori's words.

"HURRY UP!"

Zephyros screamed at me.

"I WANT TO GO HOME!"

"Hold on, we're talking about plans for the weekend."

I replied.

"THAT DOESN'T MATTER! THIS WEEKEND IS FAMILY WEEKEND!"

Shit.

I forgot.

My parents are very successful business owners.

It is extremely rare for me to see them away from the job, so to make up for it we all come together as a family and do something together at least one weekend a month.

I completely forgot this weekend was family weekend.

*GROAN*

"Sorry guys, I forgot that I have a family trip this weekend."

I admitted to everyone.

"Don't worry about it."

Okori replied.

"Yeah, I'm sure we can go next weekend."

Anton added.

"No,"

I began as I flashed them the most genuine fake smile I could make.

"I wouldn't want to stop your fun."

They accepted those words as I left to go home.

In truth, I'm not happy.

I want to go to the amusement park, not whatever we're doing this weekend.

How annoying.

"Hey, Yuhven-…"

Anita saw me on my walk home and wanted to say "hi", but I refused to respond.

She sensed my internal struggle and left me alone.

I always felt like she understood me.

"Isn't that your friend?"

Zephyros asked me.

"Don't worry about it."

I replied.

Medusa, who was also walking home with us, listened silently.

In truth, I would regret not replying to her at that moment…

Because after that our relationship was never the same again.
