Chapter Four

Third Person P.O.V.

The next day was windy and damp. Hearing the laughter of children puts Rabbit's mind at ease as she sits on the big top tent. Charlie was far too busy snoring and lounging half off of his bed. His tent flaps rustled a bit with the wind but he didn't stir. Rabbit smiles and starts to hum the song 'Angel' (Sarah McLachlin) softly. With a groan, the man wakes up to the hum, rolling out of bed.

"That...is by far the creepiest thing I have heard. Yet, it's beautiful in a way."

The man listened with a yawn, the haunting tune hinting at Heaven's people. Slipping on some pants Charlie made his way out of his tent to see how things were doing. Some kids ran by him, laughing and calling out to each other in a game of tag. With another yawn, he makes his way toward the humming carney.

"Don't suppose there's coffee here?"

Nodding her head after stopping her humming, coffee appears out of nowhere.

"There." She said without looking at him.

With a straight faced look he simply took a sip of the coffee.

"Creamer by chance?"

Nodding again, she hands him some. The sounds of child's laughter seemed to put the rabbit masked ghost in a daze.

"Thank you." Charlie said before looking around the gray colored area he now calls home.

After a while, he had asked what was eating away at him since seeing the girl in the mirror.

"So, do I have to worry about you spying on me through that mirror or is it like a cellphone?"

"No. I don't spy on anyone here. It's rude." She says.

Charlie just drank his coffee quietly while looking at the children playing.

"Oh, and I only appear in mirrors on sunny days. Gloomy days like today are when I can be seen." The girl added.

"Ahhh. Was wondering about that." Glancing over her, he gave a nod.

"Pretty cute...for an axe wielding blood queen."

"Thanks, I guess." She said before he spotted something in her mouth.

"It was indeed a compliment. Whatcha chewing on?" Charlie asked.

Pulling out the object with a pop, he saw a blood red lollipop in her hand. That's when he took notice of her outfit.

"Huh, you a sweet fan? And a nice outfit, it suits you." He said while looking at the masked murderer.

She nods, paying no mind to his compliment. Putting the sucker back into her toothy mouth, she looks over the carnival, her home. The trees rustled as the wind could be heard whistling through the home of ghosts.

"This looks like a nice place to be." Charlie said as he managed to get atop the tent where Rabbit had perched herself.

"It's been abandoned for years. So it's seen better days." She said with a hint of sadness snaking through her otherwise soft voice.

Charlie had thought for a while and was wondering about what her story was. His little brother never mentioned how she died. Michael never mentioned much about her from what the man could recall.

"So, how long have you been here?" he asked her after the silence between them grew unbearable.

"Since I was 5 years old. I died only two years later when I was 7. My death caused such a concern that the people that ran this place had to leave." She said, sadness creeping into her voice again.

Charlie stayed silent, letting the girl collect herself before she continued with her story. She looked over at him without turning her head before looking over at the woods that stretched beyond the fence.

"It was a buzzing day here. There was a show we did, in the big top. It was your typical show, one I've done hundreds of times. However, the Ringleader had failed to check the rig that was supposed to lift me in the air. About six feet from the floor, the rope holding me snapped and I fell. When I woke up, I was dizzy. I didn't feel like myself, like I was lighter. It wasn't until they got up and left that I found out I was dead."

"Hm, shitty way to go. But you've got a purpose now. We're not dictated by the circumstances of our birth, just what we do with the life we are given. Did they at least take your body for a proper burial?"

"I was buried in an unmarked grave. My parents didn't even hold a funeral. They just saw me as a defective toy." She said, still looking out towards the woods.

"Do you know where the grave is?" Charlie asks her, his voice a bit lower than before.

"Sadly, no. All of us here don't know where our graves are. Looking for them would be fruitless."

"Eh not really. Any of your hellhounds got pups? Would be pretty easy to train them to find bodies, even long decomposed ones. And if you have a general idea of the area, it's even easier."

"All of my hounds are male. And Michael told you about the pack, huh?" Rabbit said, letting out a bit of a laugh while a tear slid down her cheek without her knowing.

"Ah, that puts a damper on things. Well, it's still not impossible to train them to find them. And yeah, he did." Charlie said, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

She shrugs before looking at him, wiping the tears away before she stood up while looking at the man who stumbled through her gate of the place she had died.

"Trust me, it's not that hard. Just gotta let me borrow one and I can try to train 'em." He says to her, standing up himself while stretching.

"I'll think about it." She said as another gust of wind whistled through the dead trees, tearing the leaves from their branches.

"Just let me know. Anyway I think I'll head back to my tent for a bit and do some organizing."

"Ok, I'll be around."

That's when they both heard crying coming from the front gate before one of the kids called to the girl.

"Big Sis! We got another kid, a little boy!" Anna calls out near the gate.

"Dammit, ok. Charlie, go tend to the child, I have some business to deal with." Rabbit said, her voice darker than normal.

"Okaaay. Take this first." He said, tossing to her a pack of wet wipes.

"I don't need these." She tosses them back at him.

"Blood in steel wears it down, try to keep it clean." He said before making his way to the source of the noise.

"My blade doesn't rust." She murmurs before Charlie could hear her.

She didn't say anything but called him and asked him to make the child feel safe here and to make a file for her. He looked confused before he asked his next question.

"Make a file? Alright, whatever that means. Guess name and cause of death or somethin."

It was near midnight before Rabbit came back, mask splattered in fresh blood while blood stained her clothes and boots. Her exposed skin was also splattered in the metallic smelling liquid.

"So, I don't think I ever mentioned it, but I'm not exactly great with kids. Kid didn't stop crying till Anna told him he was safe with us. But I did get a lil' info from him." Charlie said while she cleaned up.

"What exactly did you say to him?" She said without looking at him.

"I just asked him to calm down. That he won't be hurt anymore and so on. And once he stopped crying I got a few pieces of info from him."

"Ok. Name?"

"According to him… Chole, couldn't get a last name."

"That's ok. Age?"

"Couldn't get that, but didn't look older than six or seven. My guess is either he couldn't count yet or just too shaken up."

"Poor kid. His dad was no help."

"Well, about that...looks like the hands were big. Safe bet he's the one who probably did it."

''Funny thing was, he told the truth and laughed about it too. Abusive prick."

"Can't say that I'm surprised. If you killed your kid, not many would exactly go telling the truth. But I'm guessing he's been dealt with?"

She grins as she pushes her mask to reveal her toothy smile, the lights that first appeared were now gone.

"And I left a nice little message for the cops to find." She said while laughter followed.

"Gruesome. Anyway the other kids got him sorted out and into a tent. So, he should be fine for a while."

"Ok, I'll talk to him later once he is calm enough."

''Sounds good." Charlie said, kicking at the ground.

Once the girl was cleaned up, she turned to the man and looked at him with a hand on her hip. Charlie looked up from the ground and jumped a bit.

"Why are you looking at me?" he said.

"What's on your mind, Charlie?"
