Chapter 2

I'm running for my dear life. The "human" I spotted in the distance is now hunting me. Apparently, it's a mutated beast that took human form. If it is like that, then somewhere nearby there should be a human settlement.

At this stage of my life, I'm more comfortable with just being around the nature. But naturally, I wouldn't say no to human contact.

- Eh, little fox. Could you help me already with this beast? It's still pretty tough for me to defeat it. -

What answered me was the silence and stillness of the forest. With occasional strange cries in the background.

I've been thinking about it, but the little fox is a little cruel when it comes to this kind of things.

It only comes to my aid when I'm close to death.

And even with all that, I understand. That it wants me to become accustomed to the law of jungle.

Hunt or be hunted.

During the first two years I resented her because I thought that she didn't want to help me. Or even get rid of me.

But when I was near death while fighting a giant crocodile, she appeared, saving me. She even took care of me while I was recuperating.

All in all, I have a thoughtful companion that is letting me adapt faster and effectively to this foreign environment.

While thinking all that, the beast is closing on me. So, I will need to fight it.

It already happened various times, that I compete for survival with a beast more powerful than me. And it's still pretty fearsome to think about it.

I'm not a fighting maniac but if there is some interesting fight in front of me, I get excited.

It's taking a toll on me, the fact that apart from surviving and fighting in this mountain, there doesn't exist another form of entertainment.

The fight right now will be tricky, as I'm accustomed to just fight beasts, and not beast with human form. But hopefully this beast just copied the appearance of a human and doesn't know how to fight properly.

----------------

The fight started 30 minutes ago, or so I think. The battle was almost one sided with the majority of the time me being unable to cope up with the speed of the opponent.

But during the fight I noted that the movements of the beast were limited and crude, like it didn't know what it was doing with its body.

And even with that disparity I almost lost. I'm still weak after all those years of practice.

At the end of the fight, we were both exhausted. The beast because of its awkwardness with the movements of a human, and I because I was doing everything I could to not die.

Because of the tiredness the beast was left with little to no qi.

And even then, I was still alert because the beast maybe would still have energy left to finish me.

In the next second, the "human" started to become blurry and there appeared a little fox panting.

I should have known that there would be no human settlements nearby. The little fox gave me hope just to shatter it the next moment.

What a cruel companion I have.

----------------

After the battle we both returned to home, I was in pretty low spirits after learning that there is no nearby settlement of humans.

The little fox was trying to cheer me up by saying that there is a delicious beast slayed waiting in our house to be prepared.

- You know, back then I got hope. I thought that I could finally talk with another human.-

-......-

-Hey, you know that, over the last six years, I've dreamed of talking with a fellow human. Not a one-sided conversation like the ones I have with you, but to have the other to respond to what I said. -

-......-

The little fox was staring at me, like it was hurt that I thought our conversations were just one sided.

-I didn't say that I don't care about our conversations. In fact, it's those conversations that maintained my rationality, your willingness to comprehend me and keep me company are things that I would always treasure. -

The little fox regained its liveliness and started to run towards our house while jumping at the same time.

-But I really need someone to talk back to me....-

While letting out a sigh, and resigning to my loneliness, I also start to sprint towards my companion.

----------------

The thing that greeted my sight was a enormous animal, I think it was a lion, obviously a very mutated one, with a height of maybe 4 meters, and a length of 8 meters.

We ended up roasting it outside the house, the entirety of the lion, because with both of us evolving due to qi the organism ends up increasing the consumption of energy.

That, and the meat will go bad if we store it wrongly. And with me being just a average citizen on earth, I don't have the knowledge necessary to try and depend on stored food prepared by myself.

The little fox was right, the beast was delicious even without spices. And even the scent was wonderful, enough to make your mouth water.

Back in earth I was fond of consuming delicious food.

This hobby of mine still accompanies me in this world. And I can say with certainty that the meat of this lion is the best dish I've ever tasted. It would even be better with spices, but I dont even recognize a single plant in this forest.

The scent ended up attracting some beasts, but with the little fox here, the majority ended up scared and those that were tasty enough became new ingredients for our food.

While doing this, I was thinking about methods to evolve more efficiently. And to use my strength more efficiently.
