Chapter 14

After regaining my senses, what appeared in front of me was truly a sight to see even with my blurry vision.

It was a total disaster, everywhere you could see there were holes in the earth, scorched trees, or dead carcasses of different animals. Earth was floating all around the scene, forming a kind of fog that blocks part of the battlefield and hurts the eyes.

The site that was heavily damaged was where I put the rune bombs, it seems that I forgot to remove the rune that acted as a sensor.

A bleak smile found its way into my face. It seems that one way or another, if I ran out of luck, the bear could have killed me.

Some of the runes for the cage did not even exist at this point.

The thing that made this scene a good one, was the fact that the bear was sprawled in the ground with its intestines spilling out. The pungent smell of blood and charred meat made its way into my nose. I have already been long accustomed to this kind of smell, which made it somewhat bearable, even mor so for the joy coursing through my body. The fact that I could defeat that humongous beast without many causalities in my body is worth all the effort.

I mean, my body was almost in taters, my muscles were twitching, and all my nerves were aching as if there were innumerable nails pricking my body, my vision is cloudy and sometimes distorted, I couldn't hear anything at all, and every time I breathed my lungs would feel as if they are on fire.

But I could still recover from it without any repercussion, the little fox just needs to take care of my for a little while and find some useful medicines in the wild.

If anything, I would benefit from this fight, the meat of that bear would be useful for consumption as it has an enormous amount of qi infused due to its properties. And the memory of this fight would be worthy enough to learn from, as I would need to be able to create runes under pressure and not commit the same mistake as I did today, putting a sensor instead of a detonator.

I stood there, frozen in place, motionless, my body wasn't reacting, and all my limbs were stiff. It finally gave up after losing all that pressure when I relaxed. I ended up facing the little house of ours, hoping that the little fox gets out of there early.

I don't know how much time I stood there motionless, but the sun was already going down. The forest became colored with shades of orange and red. The sky was a beautiful symphony of orange, red and white, with an occasional bird flaying, trying to get back home hastily after an arduous day of searching for food. All the dirt that was raised in the earlier fight is still floating in the air, the combination of sunlight and dirt formed a weird mist, but it nevertheless made the entire scene to gain an appeasing aesthetic.

Finally, the little house started glowing. At last, the little fox would come out.

The last thing I saw was a humongous white thing getting out of the house, with a little golden halo around it, as if exuding holiness.

And then I just lost consciousness.

----------------

For quite some time my mind was fuzzy, I knew that I was back inside the house getting treated by the little fox, but that is everything. There were sometimes where I was barely awake listening to the little whimpers of the little fox, and there were time where I was in some kind of limbo, just me alone in a entirely dark world.

It wasn't a good experience, as I've come to fear slightly empty spaces with no trace of life, but it was bearable because anytime in the next second I would be able to hear the little fox; sometimes there were sounds of joy, sometimes those sounds were of sorrow, and sometimes I would just feel some heat by my side showing me the location of the little fox. It was a turbulent time between stress and relief.

Who knows how many time has passed, but at least now the time which I spend awake is large enough for me to know how the little fox is doing during this time. Most of her time is still spend trying to refine her core and add it new runes, when she thinks it's enough for the day or I start to show signs of discomfort, she starts to feed me medicine. If she doesn't have any at hand, she immediately starts to look for one in the forest.

I, obviously, can't see anything, what are awakened are my vital organs and every muscle in my body was not responding to me. I can hear, taste and smell just fine but as said earlier, my muscles can't move and so, my eyelids are in the way.

The medicine was bitter, but it smelled pretty good, so I think that I was being fed some kind of flower. I dont know how she can secure an abundant amount of these flowers, as normally, these medicines would grow one at a time; at least that was the case with the ones I've encountered so far.

Let's just ask the little fox when I woke up.

----------------

It seems that I lost consciousness entirely, not waking up in the middle of a black void was truly a blessing. The next thing I knew was that I was staring at the ceiling in the house for quite some time.

When the little fox came home quite some time latter, It looked so surprised to see me with my eyes open. It immediately ran to my side to check if I was better. It was bothersome but it also filled me with joy, seeing that my partner cared so much about me. I would have liked to hug her and told her to not worry about my condition anymore, but unfortunately I was still unable to move.
