Within Cao Yun's 'Aureate Grove', the Blood Gushing Holy Heart pill was being burned to a crisp. There was almost no medicinal essence left in the pill but some of its intent remained. Cao Yun was thus trying to use it as a basis to add medicinal essence in it. Reviving a Spirit pill was a difficult task, but not as difficult as refining a Spirit pill. Honestly Cao Yun wasn't sure he would be able to refine such a pill himself, even with Dian Mo's help. Considering that Dian Mo was a spirit, he was obviously helpful. Unfortunately, his expertise was really about array formations. He did give Cao Yun a few tips but nothing exceptional, just remainders at the right time to keep Cao Yun on the correct track.
His crucible was burning with black flames as his Black Heart Flame was activating it. As he threw various powders in the flames, some tongues of fire turned red, green, yellow, purple, gray. There was a variety of flames all birthed from Cao Yun's Black Heart Flame. Each one had different properties thanks to Cao Yun's control and the powders used. He had even used precious ingredients and demonic cores. Each tongue of fire was actively working on a different part of the cauldron.
Inside the cauldron, this was hell. The Bloodshade Lotus and the Solar Ash Resin were clashing, creating a titanic storm that threatened to make the cauldron explode. But the boom that almost destroyed the cauldron was in fact due to the opposite thing. Some parts of the Bloodshade Lotus and the Solar Ash Resin were merged thanks to the blood essence of the White Claw Eagle. As it happened, the energy released created a small shriek that erupted like thunder. It was the sound of the White Claw Eagle.
For Cao Yun, this was a small success. From the amalgamation of those three substances, a small bead was born. It would have been more accurate to call it a tiny droplet. But Cao Yun treated it as an incredible treasure. Using both the flames outside to shape the storm within and his spiritual senses, he guided the small bead toward the charcoal that used to be the Blood Gushing Holy Heart pill. As the pill was in such a horrendous condition, it immediately tried to absorb the small bead in order to restore itself. Obviously, Cao Yun let it do so as it was precisely his goal.
When it absorbed the small bead, the Blood Gushing Holy Heart pill caused a tiny whirlwind and some other substances within the cauldron got inside of it. Cao Yun made sure to prevent as much toxins as possible from getting in there. Thankfully his Rune of Fire was making his control of the flames so good that it was easy. The Blood Gushing Holy Heart pill had expended most of its medicinal essence so it was very high in toxins already. Although Cao Yun had burned some of them already, they remained in the cauldron as fumes and smoke. He couldn't allow any more toxins to get into the pill if he wanted to succeed. At the very least, he was hoping for a Perfect pill. Getting a True Essence pill was simply impossible and a Pure pill was just too difficult.
Moreover, if the pill had too many toxins, it would reduce Hongyu's chances. Indeed, this pill was supposed to save Hongyu's life who was still suffering. As Cao Yun was working on the refinement process, he could hear and even feel Hongyu's pain. But he had to focus on the 'Aureate Grove' as much as possible, he couldn't allow any distraction.
The Bloodshade Lotus was paradoxically rich in Water and Fire as it fed on blood while the Solar Ash Resin was rich in Fire and Wood. Wood was nourished by Water and then nourished Fire. In theory, Water also extinguished Fire but the Bloodshade Lotus was richer in Fire already and most of its Water attribute was used to nourish the Wood attribute of the Solar Ash Resin. As a consequence, Fire was extremely potent within the cauldron. Although it was very dangerous, it helped Cao Yun in fact. Indeed, he had the Rune of Fire so working with this element was easier than with any other element.
Besides those elements, the main problem was the clash between Yin and Yang. The Bloodshade Lotus was Pure Yin while the Solar Ash Resin was Pure Yang. One was born in dark places nourished by blood and murderous intents. The other was birthed by the Sun itself in extremely luminous and hot places. Although their elements could seem to complement each other relatively well, the clash between the Yin and the Yang was tremendous. The more Cao Yun was trying to merge their elements, the more their core principles opposed each other as mortal enemies.
It took Cao Yun more than five days of uninterrupted refinement. All this time, he could hear Hongyu. Unfortunately, she was slowly falling into a coma despite the array formations he had set up around her and the few pills he had given her to stabilize her condition. It was hard to tell but she might not even survive another day...
Cao Yun had taken inspiration from 'Ocean Flowing Back to the Summits' which consisted in using the medicinal essence from a pill to forge a new one. But he was not using the medicinal essence, in fact he was adding medicinal essence. What he was using was the spirit within the pill as a basis to forge a new Spirit pill. Besides, he had used several pills as inspiration, some were known in the Piaolu planet and some were only in Cleansed Asura's memories. Among them were the Molten Feather Soothing pill, the Nine Suns Ascension pill and the Thousand Blood Lotus pill.
The Molten Feather Soothing pill was meant to heal demonic beasts and was particularly effective on avian demonic beasts, hence the name. It was a 5-star Heaven pill imagined by sages in another world that Cleansed Asura had visited. The knowledge around demonic beasts simply wasn't good enough on the Piaolu planet to rival such a pill, despite the profession of demonic beast tamer. Even the Huang family didn't know of such a pill. That being said, they did have pills to help their demonic beasts. Undoubtedly they would love to get the recipe for this pill considering their bloodline.
The Nine Suns Ascension pill was a pill that could promote Fire and restore one's Qi. It was a 4-star Heaven pill primarily used by cultivators in order to produce a large amount of Fire Qi within them. Such a pill was extremely useful when it came to cultivation and was in fact a great help to go through the Lesser Tribulation as it would help inject a phenomenal amount of Fire Qi within one's Middle Dantian just before crystallizing it. And the main ingredient of this pill was in fact the Solar Ash Resin.
Finally, the Thousand Blood Lotus pill was obviously refined with the Bloodshade Lotus as its core. Its main goal was to replenish one's blood. But it was also very useful to cultivate one's blood as well. Thus it could both be used to heal or to cultivate. Although humans didn't cultivate their blood as their main cultivation system, it was still part of their cultivation. In fact, the Huang family was among those who cultivated their blood the most. And this pill came from their library. It was a 4-star Heaven pill as well.
After many booms echoed from his 'Aureate Grove Crucible', Cao Yun got ready. With his spiritual senses he knew that the most critical moment was upon him. The pill was almost done. Now he had to open the cauldron and finalize it. There was still a lot of medicinal essence orbiting the pill. As soon as he would open the cauldron, it would begin to condense on the pill. But, at the same time, the pill would instinctively try to fly away. Thus Cao Yun set up many small array formations all around his cauldron and himself. They were meant to keep the medicinal essence within as well as block the pill were he to fail to catch it.
Even with his mind cultivation, Cao Yun was completely exhausted. The very array formations he set up were weaker than usual which forced him to set up even more array formations, trying to prevail through sheer quantity rather than quality. Hopefully it was too much and the process would be easier than he imagined, but Cao Yun decided to prepare for the worst scenario.
At last, he opened the cauldron. Immediately a powerful scent of blood assaulted him. Using this as an opportunity, the pill flew away. Without any hesitation, Cao Yun tried to grab it but the pill literally went through his weak Wei Qi as though it didn't exist and then pierced through his very hand. The tiny pill punctured his flesh and left the other side of his hand. Fortunately it collided with the array formations. Three of them collapsed instantly but it forced the pill backward.
This time, Cao Yun coiled the Black Heart Flame all around his hand. He even used the hole in his hand to bring a few drops of his Golden Blood out. Then, he swatted the pill toward the ground. As soon as it hit the ground, the pill tried to fly away again but Cao Yun used his spear to crush it. Circulating all his cultivation and martial arts, the young man even mobilized his Spear Heart. The pill couldn't move. It still tried though.
After some time, the pill finally calmed down. The medicinal essence all around Cao Yun and the pill was condensing and improving the quality of this pill. Apparently Cao Yun had been able to make it into a true 1-star Spirit pill. It had a powerful spirit that pushed it to escape. But it had no intelligence, it was just acting like a plant would do, reacting to the stimuli around it. It had no thought or sentience of its own.
Finally, all the medicinal essence in the air was absorbed by the small pill. Despite its terrible appearance as it was still black as coal, the pill was full of vitality. Cao Yun had a hard time judging the quality of the pill. There was no doubt that it was a success, but it was difficult to determine how much medicinal essence and toxins were within it. Most likely it had barely reached the requirements to be called a Perfect pill but he still wasn't absolutely sure. It had definitely around 90% medicinal essence, but it might slightly fall on one side or the other. Dian Mo couldn't tell either.
Since he had created this pill himself, Cao Yun named it. Considering the current situation, he named this 1-star Spirit pill, the Tyrant Bloodfire Heart pill. Now that it had absorbed all the medicinal essence it could, the pill calmed down. Cao Yun could lift it without risking it escaping again. However, he did use his spiritual senses to keep it captive, just in case.
Losing no time at all, Cao Yun left his cauldron and crucible where they were and stepped outside of the array formations around them. Immediately he was in front of Hongyu as though he had appeared before her out of thin air. With the potent pill in hand, he forced Hongyu's mouth open. The poor fenghuang was barely conscious. That being said, she recognized her brother's presence and let him do as he pleased. Once he put the pill in her mouth, she instinctively swallowed it. Not only did she trust Cao Yun completely, she was also used to his miraculous pills. So, in that moment, she was confident he was trying to save her life and that this pill would help her tremendously. But little did she imagine how right she was.
Even within Hongyu's body, Cao Yun followed the pill with his spiritual senses and he helped her make the most of it. He guided the pill toward her demonic cores, especially toward her Wrath Core and Evil Core. Then, he made sure the pill released all of its medicinal essence. A huge wave of heat and warmth spread throughout Hongyu's body. Her tails burned with great intensity while small flames appeared all over her body. Her feathers started to grow back as her skin was glistening with flames. Those feathers were as black as night, but there were like embers as one could see the blazing skin beneath her.
Her feeble seventh core absorbed most of the medicinal essence and it had finally become a true core. Hongyu was officially a 7-core demonic beast. Cao Yun's gamble seemed to have paid. But it was still dangerous. Any mistake could kill Hongyu who was still weak. Her very essence was being pushed and if she used too much of it, she might die. She had to use the medicinal essence of the pill rather than her own essence. So Cao Yun was helping her with that by mobilizing the medicinal essence himself. Thankfully, Hongyu's body was used to the intent of the Drop of Wrath so it didn't oppose Cao Yun's intent at all. In fact, his intent was amplified and it guided Hongyu's body to do exactly what Cao Yun wanted.
Hongyu began to grow a bit. It wasn't much but she clearly became larger. Honestly, a large part of this growth was due to the feathers that grew back. Without her feathers, Hongyu had looked tiny. But with those longer and more vibrant feathers, she looked bigger. Her eyes opened in full and they were filled with flames as well. Her pupils looked like two tiny suns. Her beak and claws were as black as coal while her feathers were embers on a powerful and bright fire.
Finally she stood up and screeched. Suddenly the temperature within the cave increased tremendously. If Cao Yun had been a mere mortal, he would have died on the spot. Even with his cultivation and the Rune of Fire, the heat was impressive. It wasn't dangerous to Cao Yun as Hongyu wasn't actively trying to attack him, but he could imagine what her flames at full strength could do. Behind her, she still had three large tails made of feathers that truly looked like small flames. But she also had two new tails that were literally made out of fire.
Hongyu had become a 7-core demonic beast, a Heaven-Searing Fenghuang!
