ODETTE'S POINT OF VIEW
The ceiling above me was blank, but it felt like it was staring back.
I lay there in the dark, my body still, my mind anything but. The silence wasn't peaceful—it was loud. Every thought echoed, every question repeated itself like a broken record.
What was Kiel hiding?
Why was Luke suddenly everywhere?
And why did I feel like I was the only one who didn't know the rules of the game I was being forced to play?
I turned onto my side, reaching for my phone again. The screen lit up, casting a pale glow across my face. No new messages. No missed calls.
Just the same calendar reminders. The same unanswered questions.
I was about to set it down when it buzzed.
One new message.
No name.
Just a number I didn't recognize.
"You're not crazy. He's hiding something. Look in the drawer beneath his study desk."
I sat up, heart pounding.
