FAIRY FLOSS

"It's okay," Luca said to the guard. He was staring at me. He must've read my expression. "Let the girl through."

I gave Luca a grateful smile.

I stuck my head out the window, waiting for the little girl to catch up to us as I held onto the carriage doorframe to steady myself inside the moving carriage.

"Lena, I don't think it's a good idea…" Cece murmured.

The little girl finally caught up, running alongside the carriage. Holding up the lei, she raised her small hands.

Instead of accepting the lei with my hand, I leaned over so she could reach my head. If the carriage door were to suddenly open, I would surely fall on my face.

"Lena, don't!" Cece said frantically.

The little girl's face lit up and she threw the lei over my head.

But it was too small, probably designed for a child, and it wouldn't fit past my head.

Her face fell in disappointment.
